With modern military HUD'S we could see them. Soon very little week escape our abilty to see and measure. We never thought we'd see a black hole, though we really only saw the disk as i understand it.

The craziest part of the pillars of creation is that they're 4 to 5 light years tall and just a tiny part of the much larger eagle nebula. Just gas and dust going on for trillions and trillions of miles.
So space lacks the aesthetics to really get me there
