Ford Does Not Want You to Know This About the F-450 vs F-350

If you are trying to decide between a Ford F-450 and an F-350 pickup, the answer is not as simple as bigger equals better. There are some real surprises in the numbers that most buyers never see coming.

In this video, Jon Galland puts an F-450 and an F-350 side by side and measures the actual differences in axle size, brake caliper size, steering radius, rear spring packs, tire specs, gear ratios, and towing ratings. He also busts one of the biggest myths about the F-450 and explains exactly who should buy which truck based on how they actually use it.

In this video, you will learn:
– Why the F-450 actually tows less than a well-equipped F-350 on paper and what that means for real world use
– How much shorter the turning radius is on the F-450 and why that matters when pulling long trailers in tight spaces
– The exact differences in brake caliper size between the two trucks front and rear
– How tire and gear ratio choices affect RPM, fuel economy, and towing capability on each truck
– Which truck Jon recommends depending on how much time you spend towing versus driving unloaded

At Whiteface Ford, we help truck owners get the most out of their Ford trucks, whether it is for work, towing, ranch life, or fleet use.

  1. It’s a shame you sell trucks to rich people now and not the average blue collar guy these trucks used to be made for. Now you have to basically own a company that needs a truck like these and then it’s more justifiable because atleast it’s a write off. I have a 21’ 450 and tho I love some of the features like the turning radius. It’s a giant piece of shit in many ways. You have become rich fuckin over blue collar people. Eventually your sales will be low enough it’s going to start costing you and then maybe then you can sell these at an affordable price.

  2. I'll speak for tens of thousands of people who are not interested in buying any modern vehicles from Ford or any other manufacturer. The problem is not with the capability of these new trucks. The problem is that the manufacturers intentionally engineer them to fail. Dealers make their money in the service drive, and manufacturers make a nice cut from the parts, so their business model is to build trucks that will require an alarming number of trips through the service drive over its lifetime. HARD PASS.

  3. I see a lot of great educational content concerning Ford F-series (350 and up mostly) trucks on your channel and I’m sure I will learn a lot watching your videos. That said, what I’m not seeing is anything concerning galvanic corrosion on aluminum wheels causing air leaks. It would be great to see someone connected with Ford ignore the lawyers and actually address this issue and provide practical and affordable solutions. I not only have a leaking valve stem caused by corrosion, the entire surface of my passenger side front wheel where it mates to the hub is badly corroded. The wheel’s coating is completely compromised there and allowing the wheel to corrode. I can’t find anything from Ford on how to best address this issue. Do you have anything to say on it? I have searched your channel and found a lot of videos on tires, but nothing on the wheel issue. Did I miss something in my search, have you actually addressed this issue? I would love to know if you have. Thank you for the content.

  4. Ram 4500 has the wider front wheel base as well been driving them since 2011 mine are all dump trucks towing landscaping trailers and it can turn in just 49 feet with crew cabs. So yeah im not surprised the f450 can do that as well its a real cool feature over 350-3500s on them the front wheels line up with the inside rear wheels on the bigger trucks they line up in-between them

  5. As a person that tows trailers inthe spring summer an fall but plow in the winter the 350 was perfect the 450 an 550 were fine but not at the same level as the 350

  6. To get the true tire inflation, you load the truck up and then run over a truck scale at a truck stop. I bet that the F350 with smaller tires will require a higher inflation rate, then the F450 with bigger tires (all things being equal). Anyone that runs maximum inflation listed on the tire will get a truck that rides like a fork lift. And actually when running empty tire inflation should be adjusted too. It's simple just pull up the tire inflation table on your tire manufacturers web site and follow the inflation for your weight.
I had a bus conversion with 11R-24.5 16 ply tires with maximum inflation of 120psi. After weighing the table showed 85psi infront and 80psi in the rear. For safety and simplicity I ran 90psi all around. See how different that is? Good luck.

  7. I have been watching your videos a lot lately
Can I do a super single conversation on my f350 but only going to a 35” tire and remove the standard bed installing a flatbed

  8. Excellent explanation….I have an 08 gmc duramax dually however I used the front axle out of a 2017 f450 for my solid axle swap and the turning radius is alot tighter than gm IFS junk. I'm glad ford will never use IFS junk on their Superduties. One more thing I have an ole school 4 door f350 powerstroke 5 speed manual transmission , manual transfer case and manual locking hubs. I get asked on a weekly basis dam near am I selling it the answer is no😊

  9. FYI, these are extremely rare trucks outside of Texas. I’m talking about the F450 that is simply not available in the rest of the country. The F 350 dual rear wheel model is available throughout the country. This is a very important point. when upselling the F450. You have to go to Texas.

  10. As someone who doesn't own any trucks like this i wonder why not just get a kenworth or pete etc at this point.. My "semi" even drives itself essentially. Really nice for long drives. I mean a day cab might be like 20k more but also known reliability . And i know 20k isnt nothing but

  11. If you get it in the cab chassis version with the bed and everything on it, you will be able to tow more because it allows more weight on the rear axle. The 450 you’re allowed to put 12,000 pounds on the rear axle instead of just 9900 it is to keep it in that weight class that you guys are talking about.

  12. Looking thru the comment section and you are another one of these youtubers who has no engagement with people watching their video's. I don't see you replying to a single comment made below, so shameful and disrespectful to the people who take time to comment on your videos and are looking for engagement and replies.

  13. You started to talk about fuel economy, but you never game actual L/100KM or MPG….. all you did was talk about engine speed…. You should take and edit your video to pull that section out since you didn't give any real world numbers.
