  1. Is there any way to stop missing the shuttle or hit directly straight? I’ve always held the racket in a panhandle grip with my index duly extended; I’m trying to do a forehand grip instead, but I either miss the racket or don’t feel like I have precision. When I have the index grip, I can hit a straight shot where I’ll never miss the shuttle, in comparison to the forehand grip where I feel like I’m bending my wrist unnaturally and I don’t know where the shuttle is hitting. I only play in actual matches at school so I can’t really practise in games. Any tips?

  2. the net shot tip was very helpful i was always scared to net when i played doubles because most of the time my opponent kill it, but seeing this now i know what to do next
thank you so much badminton insight

  3. yes-i hate doubles—i played singles–and mixed–as i had a very strong female mixed player in comps–still played doubles as in our rep team at the nationals you had to play all—mixed is still the best badminton to watch –singles is a lot more easy–as its just you–you play like poo?–thats on you

  4. I actually quit a club at the national badminton centre because they only played doubles and I didn't know until I showed up, I just assumed it was gonna be a mix of singles and doubles games. I had no clue about who serves, where to stand, and I only played singles before so I found it hard not to instinctively go for every shot. I also disliked the fact that a loss might not be solely on me, as selfish as that sounds so it just was not my jam. So I fully understand why someone who plays mostly singles or doubles can be so much worse at the other.

  5. This video came just in time for me! I'm a 20yo player from Singapore who's been switched from singles to doubles for the last few years as my school needed a doubles player, and recently started training for a singles tournament (due to the a lack of a partner). I have noticed that I lose to players whom I know I should beat but for some reason I couldn't, and this video finally helped to pinpoint the issues, mainly that I position like I would in doubles, play more aggressively than I should while off balance, forgetting that there's noone to cover me, and have my racket in front while defending in singles.

  6. Since we have few courts where I play, we almost always play doubles so that everyone can get a chance to play. Unfortunately that means that whenever we do play singles I'm always lost on the court hahaha. Very helpful video showing what to do differently!

  7. One thing I love about your videos is how they explain the tactical side of badminton, not just the techniques! The difference between creating open space in singles and awkward space in doubles is such an interesting concept, and I also found the differences in defensive positioning and movement really useful. It shows how you can't simply play doubles like singles with a partner beside you Definitely taking these points into my next games!

  8. I never really thought about it, but instinctively done most of this the correct way. In a for fun-only club, where you'll find all sorts of players and mostly doubles are played, communication is often difficult. Even the more experienced players aren't in a position to really understand everything and communicate it appropriately. Then you have the folks who feel attacked when you try to give them tips on what they could change to improve, instead of seeing it as a helpful tip to improve our game. So most games are played worse than they could be.

  9. hi greg and Jenny, why do you recommend to use backhand grip for defence instead of bevel? Isn,t bevel grip better for re lifting of smash? can you make a video on regifting the smashes please! I am struggling with deciding using bevel or backhand. I noticed backhand grip is harder to re lift the smashes. I’m around high intermediate. hope to get a reply from you or even better a video on this please!

  10. Thanks a lot Greg and Jenny, I am a doubles player and getting confused how to play properly in singles because it's a requirement here in our country to be good at singles to get in a university team.
