Tesla quoted me $10,000 for repairs on my Model S. Instead of paying it, I’m breaking down the true value of this EV.

When the service center gives you a massive estimate, it is easy to assume the car is a lost cause. I am taking a closer look at my Tesla Model S to determine if the Tesla repair costs are actually justified or if I should cut my losses. Seeing a car trade-in value of only $8,500 forces a real conversation about what these vehicles are worth once they are out of warranty.

This situation highlights the realities of the used EV market. Whether you are driving an older electric car or looking to buy one, understanding the potential service bills is essential before you commit your cash. I am walking through my process for evaluating this unit so you can avoid buying a money pit or spending too much on maintenance.

  1. That "Remote" Diagnosis (Remote Communication with your car) is concerning, sounds "very" familiar, here:
John Deere agreed to a $99 million class-action settlement and a separate federal agreement with the FTC
Settlement to resolve right-to-repair antitrust lawsuits accusing the company of monopolizing equipment repairs.

  2. Craig, there is an electrified garage here in Orlando, you might want to drop your Tesla off there, electrified garage is a good option, if tesla is too busy or expensive, you can park your car at my complex if needed

  3. I am not wanting to bash you but to claim all EV’s and Teslas are worthless is an overreaction. Many Teslas have 200K miles with no problems. You bought a car at auction not knowing how it was cared for or running any diagnostics on it and blame it on Tesla and EVs. I would agree with you that buying them without knowing history is a mistake.

  4. Problem is not the car – you bought a neglected car for cheap, expecting a hidden gem or profit, but that price comes with problems that you are not able to fix it. You are a flipper, without offence, not a fixer. You could have get it fixed much sooner instead of waiting for Tesla, your choice, but then do not blame the car. There is lot of 10 and more years old EVs still on the roads so your cursing comes just from your frustration. Wish you getting it fixed soon and for cheap and hope that it will change your opinion.

  5. I’m not really sure why he is assuming that all of them are going to have issues at 10 yrs and 97000 miles. There are many stories of people driving their teslas beyond those benchmarks and having no issues

  6. Owning property in association with others is bad particularly when there is an unknown number of stakeholders in association. It is a bad deal. The war on private property continues.

  7. Lmao I’ve been a tech for 30 years now and I’ll stick to my 2007 GMC Envoy. You all can have these electric abominations that won’t ever last 10 years. As a guy who has a better understanding of cars than 99.9% of the population, I have absolutely no idea how people are buying into this shit, but it sure is funny to watch. 2 weeks for an appointment 🤣🤣🤣 Have fun walking or taking the bus to work if that’s your only vehicle!
