I found this sick stray kitten crouching alone on a quiet brick sidewalk. She was so weak that she went completely limp in my hands, barely breathing when I tried to offer her some water. Severe infections had glued her eyes shut, and in her new environment, she just huddled tightly in a cardboard box, nervously gripping the edges.
We rushed her to the vet for IV treatments, only to face another challenge: a hidden, severely infected wound on her hind paw. She ultimately had to undergo an amputation of her tiny toes to stop the infection. Even as she healed and grew a healthy appetite, that stubborn wildness stayed with her. During a necessary shower to clean up after a stomach issue, she whipped around and hissed fiercely at me—a reaction that sparked a lot of debate online, but I knew she was just instinctively terrified of the powerful running water.
Many people expect rescued stray cats to be completely obedient, but her fierce independence and wild instincts are exactly what kept her alive on the streets. Letting her rule the house, open doors by herself, and secretly hoard all my hair ties isn’t just about spoiling her; it’s about respecting the tough survivor she has always been.
