  1. HK is basically the first ballon dor winner that was never the best player of any competition he's played in … in germany olose was the best let alone the WC or the CL this is shocking.

  2. There is a valid argument that Kane fails to show up in the big games that really matter:
    – vs. Croatia in the WC '18 semis
    – vs. L'pool in the UCL '19 final
    – vs. France in the WC '22 qrtrs
    – vs. Italy in the Euro '20 final
    – vs. Spain in the Euro '24 final
    – vs. Arg in the WC '22 semis
It's not just a one-off but more of a pattern.

  3. "If you look at the facts, Harry Kane isn’t even the best player on his own team when it comes to big games. He never steps up when it matters most. Look at players like Michael Olise and Lamine Yamal—whenever times get hard, the ball goes directly to them because they have the whole package and actually take over games, just like Zinedine Zidane used to do. Even for England, when the pressure is on, the ball goes to Jude Bellingham, not Kane.

This hype around English players needs to stop. England was terrible, and Kane was terrible. Sure, Kane scores goals, but he plays poorly at the same time, especially in the biggest moments. Scoring a lot of goals gets you a top scorer award, but it doesn't make you the best overall player.

Look at Spain in the Euros. Without Yamal, they started looking shaky, but the moment he stepped on the pitch—even when he wasn't 100% fit—he made them look completely insane and dominant

. That is what a true game-changer does. He and Olise, who is doing the exact same thing for France and Bayern right now, bring pure entertainment back to football. They do things on the pitch that no one expects, showing total dominance and making kids fall in love with the game again. It's not just about stat-padding with goals; it's about the magic, the impact, and taking over when it actually matters. It’s time to stop the nonsense."

  4. Dean is a mug for those comments. It's one thing to disagree and offer an opinion but to say Kane is an ordinary player with good numbers is ridiculous. Not everything is overhead kicks, stepovers, blistering pace etc. Kane has been world class for nearly 10 years now, and his range of different goals, passes, even defending his own goal on set pieces is just unbelievable. I really don't think Dean has watched Kane other than England matches in recent years.

Edit: and not only that. Modern players are quite often known to be petulant divas, up to no good in the media or what have you. Harry is probably the best, example of a true professional, gentleman. An extremely rare breed nowadays. He carries the same respect as the 1966 winning lads.

  5. Dean Ashton is right, I can’t believe he was never up for a Ballon d’Or. He can do everything and anything any player in the world can do. Underrated talent, should’ve won the Ballon d’Or for 10 years straight.
    Muppet!

  6. In the end, tricks don’t win you football matches. Goals win you football matches. Kane is not only a goal scoring machine, he’s a team player and a decent human being. Head and shoulders above all others in the last year. He deserved the award.

  7. Because of Ronaldo and Messi we expect winners to be supernatural players, able to do the impossible, to awe us but before those 2 the winners were always just solid good players: Canavaro, Beckenbauer, Nedved, etc

  8. Causals: B-bu-but Olise deserves top 5 spot

What did Olise accomplish this season other than farming CORNER assists against farmers and then disappearing against PARAGUAY of all nations. Imagine vanishing against PARAGUAY yet your fangirls believe you deserve a top-5 Ballon d’Or spot. Winning automatic league in Germany and getting most of your assists from head specialists like Kane against German farmers and then disappearing when it mattered (PSG’s second and most important leg, PARAGUAY and Spain) doesn’t deserve you a top 5 spot.

  9. Bottled it again in the only game that mattered against Argentina. Most overrated player around. Stands on the halfway line admiring his passes rather than getting in the box. But congratulations for scoring goals against VW factory workers you bottler

  10. Dean Ashton can't do any of what Kane does. He is and was an average Joe footballer. Nothing more than that.

Does Mbappe deliver goal kicks through to a goal. No. Neither does Yamal.

Kane does do things other players can't do.
