Sony’s $80,000 9.6K Camera Isn’t Even the Whole Camera

Sony’s new RIALTO 65 costs $80,000, shoots up to 9.6K, and still isn’t a complete camera by itself.

The detachable 1.5 kg camera head contains a massive 65mm-format sensor with about 2.2 times the imaging area of full frame, but it still requires a Sony VENICE 2 body to actually operate.

That pushes the core hardware setup to roughly $140,000 before lenses and other accessories.

The RIALTO 65 is expected to arrive in the first half of 2027.

  1. This will make a great webcam! I always have trouble mounting the whole cinema body to my monitor; this way, I can mount only the camera head to the monitor!

  2. Tom Cruise used these cameras (with the current gen of extension heads) to fit inside of a fighter jet cockpit when filming Top Gun Maverick
