SpaceX Ship 42 Just Did Something No Starship Has Ever Done!

SimpliSafe: Get 70% off a system with professional monitoring from my sponsor SimpliSafe:

Ship 42 has fired its engines for the last time on the ground, and Elon Musk just made a promise about it that no Starship has ever kept. The FAA moved Flight 15. SpaceX hasn’t said a date. We did, last episode, and the new one doesn’t match ours. Musk also posted a launch number for Louisiana that makes the FAA’s biggest Starbase plan look small. NASA stacked the Artemis III core stage and said who flies first. And ULA’s Vulcan rocket has a date you’ll want to hear. So, when does Flight 15 fly?

  1. 10:00 ish Sorry to be a bore. The biggest total satellite mass launched in a single year was in 2025 when 3,194 tons was launched spread over 4,526 payloads (not launches).
One Heavy/Starship launch can put at least 100-150 tons into LEO with Musk claiming it will be 200 tons with improved design and engines.
10,000 launches per year would be about 150×10000 tons or 1.5 million tons per year. To produce that, manufacturing capacity would have too increase 469 times. It's not happening. Even a full space station would only take half a dozen launches and it's not yet designed and approved. Mars is not going to happen for a hundred and one reasons, most of them obvious to everyone but Musk fan boys.
Note re Mars colony, a brief rundown of some of the issues (for those who don't have a death wish).
if on Earth, we receive 100% of Earth's light from the Sun and it takes about 3 acres (1.2 hectares) of good, fertile soil to sustain one human being. On Mars, only 43% of Earth's light is received, and the soil has low nutrient content, high salinity, and toxic perchlorates. In addition the average temperatures are: Earth 15°C (59°F); Mars' -65°C (-85°F). Atmospheric pressure on Mars is about 0.6% of that on Earth. So, for a sustainable colony you would need a massive soil cleaning operation plus delivery of sufficient plant nutrients to make the soil productive, pressurised habitats of about 7 acres (2.8 hectares) per person and year round heating to have a chance of succeeding. Given that people get sick and injure themselves, one of the first requirements would be well equipped medical facilities, able to produce medications on demand. It seems to be wishful thinking that a successful colony can be established within a hundred years. If it is, it is likely to be powered by nuclear reactors and their safe delivery to Mars is problematic in itself. Additionally, Mars has nothing that is needed on Earth so the economics don't work. The billions spent sending materials, plant and people to Mars would get next to no return on the investment. The result will be that any planned program will be curtailed before it becomes viable, likely leaving colonists to die because of lack of support from the Earth. Think Roanoke rather than Plymouth.

  2. Ship catch highly likely: Booster weighs significantly heavier, ergo, the chopsticks handled it well, the ship is lighter, provided the landing burns and no other problems occur, YES they will catch it, high probability

  3. Based on their Electron success, I really had high hopes for Neutron. Now not sure. I have a lot of doubts about their carbon fiber manufacturing. I have more confidence in NG flying this year than Neutron meeting its latest launch goal.

  6. It would be useful if A3 had orion dock with each craft, crew play for a time, then after undocking, both blue moon and HLS go and land on the moon. Ideally, they would also return. Full rehearsal.

  7. Space X is better than any other organization currently operating on Earth 🌍 and Mars and that’s a fact. Anyone that doesn’t understand that has a massive lack of grey matter and is unable to engage their brain cells in order to comprehend that Space X is number one ☝🏾 priority anyone who is a genius ,scientist and is a good person can be considered to be an associate of SpaceX and should be lined up to apply to SpaceX to improve their mission to reach their goals and create a better future for mankind .

  8. Love the coverage, Felix. Kind of crazy that the booster's been caught 3 times but a ship never has, and the ship comes back way faster and hotter. Musk put the odds at "at least 50 or 60 percent" — what's your gut number?

  9. So, we're losing the Swift X-ray and Gamma-ray observatory and we must wait until 2031 for the UVX Explorer (a ultraviolet observatory) to launch? Possibly as late as 2032? We need a new Swift observatory in addition to the UVX, yes I know that science takes time, but orbital scientific instruments are far cheaper than warheads.

  10. I have always thought they are going to need separate launch and landing towers. If a booster or ship crashes it would be much better if it crashes on a pad that doesn't have the launch hardware on it. Sure that is a long term plan. Maybe they can put the catch hardware on the other side of the launch tower?

  11. Anyone else hear echoes of “when hop?” In their head every time Felix speculates on launch dates? Maybe that just shows how long I’ve been watching. Edit: Posted this at the beginning of the video before hearing Felix say “when hop?” So I guess I’m not alone 🤣

  12. Lots of promisses and talk.
The facts are: 2023 two launches; 2024 four launches; 2025 five launches; 2026 three launches (counting flight 15 it will be four).
Best predicting for the future. Look at the past.

  13. The final ground test milestone is the part that stood out to me, because once a ship has fired its engines for the last time on the ground, the next question is no longer whether it works but whether the tower catch timing can be trusted on the first attempt. Do you think a successful ship catch matters more for Flight 15 than the launch date itself?

  14. @Whataboutit what I don't understand is how the docking port will allow access around the header tank? We need to see a redesign of the header tank positioning if they are going to use a nose docking port during Artemis. Have we seen any work on this in the Starship Factory as yet?

  15. I miss the Vulcan look, I prefer getting my Space news from a Vulcan, not a Romulan. Don't get me wrong, Romulans were always hotter than Vulcans but, for Space news? No. Jus foolin with ya. Love the update <3 *8 Thank you Waiulon.

  16. I think you should do a video on those chop sticks, the complexity of it to be strong enough to catch such a massive weight in midair is extremely impressive.
now why is NO ONE talking about what's really going on in space for the need of so many launches now compared to the past 60yrs. If you graph it it would be a ridiculous spike.
