One of my uncles was on the design team for General Dynamics in Ft. Worth, TX. His contribution to the F-111 was in the area of using bi-metallic materials for the airframe related to the swept wing at supersonic speeds. He also worked on the design of the B-58 Hustler.
I admired him as one smart man helping our country be strong!!!

The idea of transportation of major organs for transplant was developed by an Asian/Australian heart surgeon back in the 1980's. His name was Victor Chang. I was the Australian equivalent of a State Trooper/Highway Patrol Officer in New South Wales in the late 80's we would meet the medical team at the airport in Sydney, one of two, depending on where the organ/s were coming from. The organ would be in an Eskimo cooler in the boot (trunk) and the medical team in the rear seat, we would radio our location as we travelled and the main traffic control centre would ensure we had a corridor of green lights as we went to the Hospital (St. Vincent's in the city). As the organ was being transferred, the recipient was being operated on, ready to receive it when it reached the operating theatre. Very serious stuff at the time, controlled fast driving (which still scared the shit out of the medicos) and the knowledge that we had spent a shift helping to keep someone alive for their family.
Tragically a couple of Chinese thugs tried to abduct Dr. Chang by staging a car accident with his vehicle. Chang resisted being pushed into another car and one of the morons pulled out a pistol and shot him, killing him instantly (dropping his wallet as he got away). This was in the 90's and I was working in forensics by then, so I was quite saddened about such a brilliant surgeon meeting such a useless demise. 👮♂️🕵♂️🇦🇺
