I can see a world where a populist anti-big tech, anti-political establishment, anti-billionaire, anti-corporate movement is able to win by pulling support from disaffected voters in both parties. People are fed up and want someone to blame, and it doesn’t take Sherlock Holmes to connect the dots and see who is actually responsible for the massive struggles people face just getting by in the modern world. We keep seeing-sawing back and forth between parties because lots of voters are casting around desperately looking for someone to offer real solutions to govern this country in the 21st century and not finding that in either mainstream party. There is a massive vacuum of vision and leadership, and I predict within the next decade someone will come along and fill it. It will look like a political watershed, an equilibrium-breaking tsunami that many don’t see coming but that looks inevitable in hindsight, led by people who are just absolutely sick of watching every corner of our lives get steadily worse while billionaires become trillionaires and politicians send sternly worded letters and try to score cheap points for their sides but don’t even attempt to accomplish the kind of transformational change people are looking for. Biden saw his mandate as “bringing us back to normalcy”, but I think he misread the room. People aren’t desperate to wind the clock back 15-20 years, they want a government that speaks to the issues they face right now and offers real, bold, visionary solutions to big, difficult problems. Hopefully we will see that sooner than later (a guy can dream, right?)
