I would look at how the black soldiers were treated by White soldiers. And I have a brother that was wounded in Vietnam, and the the white soldiers flew a Confederate flag in Vietnam. I would never fight for this country. Sure I'll go back where I come from like the whites would say. Yes I'll go. You know why? God is coming to deal with America. Real talk.

“A battle that will decide the fate of an entire war?” I will certainly not discount the importance of that battle, nor the heroism and sacrifices made to win it, but the battle of St Lo is not often referred to as the most important battle of even the western theatre of WWII. This is actually the 1st and only time I’ve ever heard that. Good video though….
There is yet to be a generation of men so brave, so fearlessly tough in existence. None before and none after. Im only 47 in 2026 but i have spent most of my life understanding this. When we as Americans think back on our history this is the generation we should try to emulate. Rest the souls of the brave who died immediately and those that carried the knowledge of those men through their long lives. Your race, your skin color has never been an issue in my heart. I can only imagine what it must have been like for Black or for Japanese Americans to wear our nations flag and fight with all of their will for a nation that was still stout with racism and to fight proudly and bravely to still be looked down upon. To me that is the characteristics of the people i want to surround myself with. To hold hatred of someone because of something they had nothing to do with is the opitamy of ignorance. I sincerely have only the greatest respect for all of the men and women who willingly made sacrifices most of us can only imagine. 🇺🇸.
This is why you all are the greatest generation. Going to war at 16, 17, 19 years old and actually wanting to go is something that I cannot see happening now. There are probably a few young men around that could pull it off, but we just are not made of the same stuff as you guys were. And we become less so with each new generation.

This breaks my heart. I lost my Grandfather fighting in the Pacific. I lost two uncles in the Korean War. I lost my elder brother in Vietnam as well as two cousins and
many of my close friends. I survived Vietnam because I was stationed in Europe at the time. Most of my buddies are gone and I am left alone. Veteran US-Navy

I’ve been to several of American cemeteries in Europe, including the one in Normandy in Lichtenstein, where General Patton is buried I’ve been to British cemeteries and also German cemeteries and there’s no other word than sadness when you go. What is different about the cemeteries? Is the German cemeteries? Have huge mass Graves of unknown just a large monument with 5+ thousand buried in a mass grave. They’re all so young.
Watching this and other films like it plus the series Band of Brothers for the first time gave me insight into what my stepfather went thru fighting the Germans and then the North Koreans. He became an alcoholic later in life which made me think very little of him but now I see he was just trying to deal with post traumatic stress. No one talked about the war so us kids had no understanding of what these men saw and did to survive. We owe a debt of gratitude to all who served and are serving now.
I read about our guys walking through the Normandy Hedgerows after we pushed inland. They said it was hundreds of yards of dead bodies and pieces the whole way. Beyond description!
I recently saw a photograph of D-Day with an American Soldier swimming into Omaha Beach. The photo was taken by Robert Capa. Legend! Where he had to be to take that photo. Balls of steel!
And yes some of the greatest marines I served with were black men. And a few Mexican soldiers were great. I’m just a big ol farm boy who was pissed off on 9-11. I kept thinking that was a good time for the draft to start up and I was part of a very long and large family that were marines and I wanted to choose my own job and branch. I think that I would have been disowned if I had been drafted into a different branch. I’m sorry for the rants but the proud marine is coming out.
My grandfather survived the war and he couldn’t speak about his time at war without breaking down and crying until he collapsed to his knees and he would clutch his bible and beg to the Lord for forgiveness and mercy. He was the strongest man I’ve ever met and spoke to. He was also in Korea and he was a drill instructor until Vietnam got out of control. He was deployed to nam and he was wounded and medically retired from the marine corps. Then he was chosen to serve the lord and he had a little church that he was the pastor of. I grew up and was put through his fire and brimstone type of boot camp and I am very thankful for his hard nosed ways. Rip pappy.
I couldn’t imagine how hard it would have been to go up against hitlers Atlantic wall. There’s a lot of it left to this day. The Nazis knew concrete and half of the structures that were built by them remain intact today. The mg42 is a terrifying weapon to hear and see in action. I have fired one of them and buzz saw is really really an accurate description of them. Had we not had the huge battleship’s firing at the ridges we would have been decimated by the German regime especially on Omaha beach. The few soldiers who survived and crossed the beach were complete bad asses. I have been in combat but nothing like those brave men faced that day.
Those poor kids and young men are the only reason why we are free today and not all speaking a different language. Bless them and thank them for their sacrifices and support them throughout their lives and remember that they were mostly forced into their service. We will never have a better fighting force than this generation of men. The war was won by the factories and the civilians who were out building the enemy. I’m proud of my relatives who fought to save the world from the enemies.
As of today June 22 2026 less than 45,000 American veterans of WW2 are still alive of the 16.5 millions that served. God Bless them all.

These Men are the real Superheroes. Not Superman, Batman, Spiderman & etc. Even though i love all of the fictional Superheroes, especially Superman, Spiderman, Wolverine & Hulk, but what These Heroes went through is Unreal. Hollywood can't come up with something like this.
Whenever we think we have it bad, we should be mandated to listen to the experiences of these men- then “boys”

As a US Navy veteran with many relatives throughout my family over generations my grandfather was US Army infantry through D Day. I have asked almost everyone over the years different wars and branches some had a little to tell others had more, but when I asked my grandfather for a story about WW2 he went silent. When I asked again thinking perhaps he didn't hear me, he responded there was nothing good and said he had no stories. Seems like a very different war than all others IMO
My grandfather was in Guam on the other side of the world under the 4th Marines 2 Battalion Fox Company FMF
