Why I use PEX B and not PEX A

  1. I just love how PEX-A is much more flexible and you can use a heat gun to take out 'kinks' when they happen by accident, but the incredible internal STRESS you put into the walls of that pipe by expanding it like that! Plastics simply 'Crack' when they are under constant stress that severe, it might take 10 years or 20 years, but it will happen. (Simple water pressure is way less, so it will take 100+ years for the plastic pipe to fail from simple water pressure). Add in the Chorine from city water, and that speeds up the cracking process. I would stick with PEX-A pipe, but use copper compression rings and the fittings made for PEX-B pipe, and use those together and completely avoid stressing the ends of the pipe with any form of 'expansion'. If you want higher flow rates at the joints, use 'Sharkbite-Max' fittings instead; they don't expand the tubing so no cracks at the expanded-pipe locations in 15 years.

  2. Uponor is having major material degradations at the 10 year mark. You picked the right product. The Uponor is failing at the joints, the expansion is causing stress int he material that cracks after 10 years.

  3. I agree somewhat to hjs approach. When I started working on my plumbing, I started with CPVC because it was cheap and easy to install. Then I upgraded to Pex. I had to decide if I would go 'A' or 'B'. I chose 'A', so I bought an expanded. Had I chosen 'B', I would not be switching. Sunk cost is a thing

  4. I wish I could find the stainless steel pinch clamps that fit snug on the pipe, like this guy has here. All I can find is the ones that are loose and don't hold in place while I crimp them.

  5. Agreed they are expensive but dude you do that shit for a living. I mean, spend a couple dollars and get the Milwaukee expansion tool. Bro, I’m a working man too. I’m a union Pipefitter Training Hall I never do packs except when I remodeled my house and I bought one.

  6. He has een doing that a long time with Pex B and still using outdated pex crimpers. Get with the times and get some angled pex crimpers. Apollos are only $26 bucks since your so cheap.

  7. PEX B Is a tougher material than PEX A, and it leeches less chemical into the water. PEX B is just chemically more stable which translates into higher strength.

    It also means it's harder to bend.

  8. I was using the crimper tool since the 80's when PolyB first came on the market. Now still use it on Pex B (Not The Same 40 yrs old Crimper, though)
    And Yes the only leak I've ever had were ones that I failed to Double Crimp. Click Click…then I take a SHARPIE marker to everyone of them across the band, then when I pressure test it, I ReCheck Every one of them and see if they slipped more than a, 1/16". If it does I mark it and replace it.
    Yes it may take me about 30 minutes more time But Knock On Rocks I ve NEVER HAD A LEAK that I have been called back on.
