The expander type fittings the pipe past the stretch springs leaks. I've seen it several times. I'll stay with the crimp rings.
Micro plastics in your water from the day you start using plastic pipework. Copper, that's the way to go.
I just love how PEX-A is much more flexible and you can use a heat gun to take out 'kinks' when they happen by accident, but the incredible internal STRESS you put into the walls of that pipe by expanding it like that! Plastics simply 'Crack' when they are under constant stress that severe, it might take 10 years or 20 years, but it will happen. (Simple water pressure is way less, so it will take 100+ years for the plastic pipe to fail from simple water pressure). Add in the Chorine from city water, and that speeds up the cracking process. I would stick with PEX-A pipe, but use copper compression rings and the fittings made for PEX-B pipe, and use those together and completely avoid stressing the ends of the pipe with any form of 'expansion'. If you want higher flow rates at the joints, use 'Sharkbite-Max' fittings instead; they don't expand the tubing so no cracks at the expanded-pipe locations in 15 years.
Uponor is having major material degradations at the 10 year mark. You picked the right product. The Uponor is failing at the joints, the expansion is causing stress int he material that cracks after 10 years.
PEX A with the expansion tool is way better
Customer pays for materials and the tool is 400 where does he get 2k to switch over?
I've seen plenty of Pex A class action lawsuits.
Never heard of one for Pex B. I'll stick sith B.
I agree somewhat to hjs approach. When I started working on my plumbing, I started with CPVC because it was cheap and easy to install. Then I upgraded to Pex. I had to decide if I would go 'A' or 'B'. I chose 'A', so I bought an expanded. Had I chosen 'B', I would not be switching. Sunk cost is a thing
PEX Press… Viega Pure Flow for the win. Worth the investment…
Those junk amazon shower valves
For as much as plumbers charge they would be able to have the tools paid for on the first job
Pex b is a superior product. Stick with it.
ive seen several videos of pinhole leaks in the expanded pex a sections that occur a few years later.
I use crimps too.
You can get the manuel expanding tool for well under 100 dollars. This guy ain't too bright, like every plumber I ever met.
I'll stick with copper! 😂
Buying once cry once. Superior water flo
There's a new manual tool.
I wish I could find the stainless steel pinch clamps that fit snug on the pipe, like this guy has here. All I can find is the ones that are loose and don't hold in place while I crimp them.
What do you think about double crimping after about a 30° rotation?
I've seen some do that.
What he doesn't mention is if he gets a repair or extenstion job on a property that has PAX A he can't take the job.
I use Jose and Jos-b
He knocked on drywall, not wood
just bought a new bottle of propane
This video is from 22. Def cheaper now and not a huge tool expense like it was
He can't afford the tool because the only jobs he gets are from people at church who feel sorry for him.
I'm going to rent the expander from home depot, should be good.
Pex a has very thin walls
Agreed they are expensive but dude you do that shit for a living. I mean, spend a couple dollars and get the Milwaukee expansion tool. Bro, I’m a working man too. I’m a union Pipefitter Training Hall I never do packs except when I remodeled my house and I bought one.
As a professional plumber, if you cannot invest 500 bucks into a tool to allows you to install a superior system then there is a problem!
Buying the pex expander is like finally getting air conditioning…. You will be like I should have had this years ago.😂
He has een doing that a long time with Pex B and still using outdated pex crimpers. Get with the times and get some angled pex crimpers. Apollos are only $26 bucks since your so cheap.
The classic boomer mentality of i have always worked like this therefore it must be good.
Everyone talking higher flow – most fixtures have water savers so it doesn't make a difference
I guess we need more microplastics in our diet.😢
The hand tool is 60 bucks at ace
PEX B Is a tougher material than PEX A, and it leeches less chemical into the water. PEX B is just chemically more stable which translates into higher strength.
It also means it's harder to bend.
I was using the crimper tool since the 80's when PolyB first came on the market. Now still use it on Pex B (Not The Same 40 yrs old Crimper, though)
And Yes the only leak I've ever had were ones that I failed to Double Crimp. Click Click…then I take a SHARPIE marker to everyone of them across the band, then when I pressure test it, I ReCheck Every one of them and see if they slipped more than a, 1/16". If it does I mark it and replace it.
Yes it may take me about 30 minutes more time But Knock On Rocks I ve NEVER HAD A LEAK that I have been called back on.
