Thanks for addressing a lot of points that other reviewers glaze over. One handed reach to the edge of the screen is something I've been wondering a lot about which I think can get quite uncomfortable
You are so Cute. Do you have a Boyfriend? ♥️
I really think this need a couple more iterations, the abysmal dust protection for the hinge along with lack of stereo speakers in the unfolded mode(when you want them the most) kills this model for me.
한국인이 영어로 리뷰하는 영상을 보니까 왜인지 몰라도 신기하군요..
Where'd you get this 00:05 wallpaper? 🙂
Nearly bought it yesterday but then I remembered that Apple is going to have the same foldable phone in September. I had bad experiences with Android phones. Better wait for Apple’s
Spent my first week with the fold 8 in san fransisco as a tourist. I also had my iphone 16 pro. Z fold 8 cleared any other phone. Battery is the weakest point but maybe i use the phone more bc of how fun it is. Perfect in planes and car rides. Pictures are fun and selfies are totally different. Didnt even use my iphone for days.
SPEAKERS PLACEMENT SUCKS 😂
Only if the Surface Duo 2 team could have continued their work.
10:7 ReadFit is productive:
OLED – 100Hz – 5G – Android
130×91 mm – 300 usd
190×133 mm – 400 usd
Do you think it's still worth getting samsung care even if you have a good case?
I'd buy a 800usd version that is just as thin and single screen, no folding.
I haven't figured out of this is actually makes sense or not. But it would be great if these companies really invest in making the dimensions work. Make sure on screen buttons/UI aren't all the way at the top on tall phones, or at the opposite side of your thumb on a wider phone.
Samsung and Google kind of try to do this, but it would be so interesting to see them fully commit to this.
Pretty balanced; good stuff.
1:35 The hinge on the Fold8 feels awful and is limited to opened and closed. It's the worst hinge on any Z Fold to date. The Fold8 Ultra is better than the 7 (the 7 was previously the worst, so low bar there), and the Ultra retains flex mode. There's absolutely no reason other than pinching pennies that Samsung didn't just put the Ultra's hinge on the Fold8. Flex mode is majorly underrated/underreported, as it's a lot more than just "use it as a tripod for photos." I most frequenly engage flex mode on my Z Fold when reading books, as it enables a natrual partially-folded book posture that really does feel more like reading a book as opposed to a flat Kindle-like slab. I also use the range of angles for things like positioning a flashlight when working in a dark space (under a sink, under a car etc.), when taking a video call on the inner display, and yes, even the mini laptop mode is useful from time to time.
4:40 I've literally never noticed the crease on my Fold7 when watching a video in landscape. I didn't notice it on my Fold5, either. In use, the crease essentially "disappears." Only going back to my Fold4 did I notice it a bit in use.
5:20 Literally a worse side-by-side experience than on the Fold7 or 8 Ultra since you have less vertical space in landscape. The physical width of the Fold8 in landscape is the same as the Fold7 and 8 Ultra in landscape, so you're just losing vertical multitasking space on the Fold8. 5:25 … Rotate the device.
Bonus (as shown much later at 9:50) with the Fold7 and 8 Ultra when doing prolonged work or content consumption in landscape: you can actually charge wired, because the USB port is oriented to the side. On the Fold8 in landscape, the USB port is on the bottom, so you'd have to rotate it upside down to access the USB port, and most apps won't reorient that way without third-party solutions to brute force rotation. This is a massively understated design failure with the Fold8.
6:30 Well observed. Even in landscape, as above, the Fold7 and 8 Ultra will have more vertical space for content above the keyboard or for additional space with floating apps etc. Shrinking the keyboard on the Fold8 doesn't resolve this, because why wouldn't you do the same thing on the 7 or 8 Ultra (in which case you'd still have a lot more space).
6:45 For a device aimed at consuming content, they sure did half-ass the speaker orientation and USB port placement (as above). All the while, video content on the Fold8 is literally the same size as the 7 and 8 Ultra, just with a bit more letterboxing.
7:15 Beyond the example of Instagram, most apps are tailored to vertical rather than landscape. As you show at 7:40, the Fold7 and 8 Ultra mitigate this with the taller display (even in landscape). The Fold8 will always be kneecapped on the inner display for anything other than just watching a video, or using split-screen.
8:35 The "tall and narrow" form factor will always be better for handheld use. The issue with those devices isn't the screen size (the cover display of the Fold7 and 8 Ultra is literally the same width as a standard S26 – it's not like back in the Fold3 days). The issue is with poor reachability in software. Stuffing key UI elements at the top of the screen is bad practice, regardless of the form factor. You still encounter this even on the Fold8, particularly given the 10mm wider display. Forcing yourself into objectively ergonomically worse hardware to compensate for software shortcomings is not what we should be doing.
for that email thing, have you tried turning it vertical and using it like that? when i tested one out using it vertically seemed really nice for productivity tasks, it reminded me of the ipad mini a lot and was quit nice to use.
I swapped my iPhone 16 Pro Max for this one, but I had to send back the Fold 8. It gets super hot fast, and I’ve heard some folks say the thermals aren’t the best because of how thin it is.
Even my regular S26 feels weird to hold now after using my Fold 8 but I use it as my work phone since its got my Company 2FA apps, device locked 😮💨
My Amazon pre order says sept 3 – 30. I need to stop watching these videos because I get depressed lol
Watching on my Samsung Galaxy Z FOLD 8 in Graphite!!!
it feels extra appropriate that this phone makes the dogshit websites look like the dogshit they are. A few extra lines of code would make social apps look perfectly fine on literally any size screen. Cant do that though cause theyd have to put effort into something.
Is texting hard on the phone? Do you prefer the fold 8 over the flip 8?
I really like this phone, it's just too expensive man. Everything is getting more expensive and I can't justify this cool phone 🙁
I agree. After using the Z Fold 8 for hours, it made my S26 Ultra look like a huge remote control. It's easy to get accustomed to the new form factor which then makes normal slab phones look weird lol. But I will be selling my S26 Ultra since it's collecting dust now. I prefer the Z Fold 8.
I think the interesting question with a Fold is no longer “how much can it do?” but “how naturally does it fit into your day?” That wider screen seems to be pushing it closer to a phone you simply use, rather than a phone you constantly have to adapt to.
I've had mine for a week as well, I haven't moved my sim from my S24U yet, but I'm really loving this phone specially when gaming on the inner screen! 🙌
Just use Gboard or Samsung Keyboard and resize, or turn to vertical orientation.
Cool 😎 👌
