My F150 STINKS! – I Fixed That AWFUL AC Smell

Is your Ford F-150 or F-150 Lightning suffering from a musty AC smell? Changing the cabin air filter may not fix the problem because the odor can come from mold, mildew and contaminants building up on the A/C evaporator coil. In this video I show you exactly how I fixed the musty smell in my 2025 Ford F-150 Lightning using Lubegard Kool-It Evaporator & Heater Foam Cleaner. We’ll look at why simply changing the cabin air filter or spraying something like Lysol into the vents may only mask the smell instead of addressing the source.

I’ll show you how to access the cabin air filter, what’s behind it, and how the airflow leads toward the evaporator coil. I’ll also show the best way to apply Kool-It through the A/C drain line, including the location of the drain on the F-150 Lightning and how the procedure differs from a gas-powered F-150.

If you have a Ford F-150, F-150 Lightning, F-250, F-350, F-450, Expedition or other Ford truck or SUV with a musty AC smell, this may be the fix you’ve been looking for.

After treating the evaporator, I let the Kool-It foam work for 15 minutes and then put it to the test. The results were incredible and the odor was eliminated!

  1. My apologies for saying condenser and not evaporator coil! 😣Thanks for watching and be sure to hit that LIKE button 👍 and HYPE the video if you’re on mobile! 🙌 Have you dealt with a musty smell in your F150? What worked for you? 👇

  2. Thanks a ton for this. I was looking this up recently and couldn’t find anything good besides regular photos that weren’t clear and this video was exactly what I needed

  3. This is an issue on lots of cars. Should be done once a year. I use Liqui Moly 4087 evaporator cleaner at work. A sign of a blocked drain is passenger side carpet being soaked.

  4. My wife’s Ioniq 5 has a setting that runs a blower fan to dry off the AC system after you shut down the car, which is supposed to help deter the growth of mold and mildew. No smells from the vents so far.

  5. I have a 25 lightning and the AC smells already also. I'm definitely going to be doing this. It sounds like Ford needs to do a redesign on the AC if it smells so quickly.

  6. Does running it on recirculating have anything to do with this smell? That is how I normally use my AC to not have to smell all the other odors from the road coming into the cabin..
