Missile defense remains one of the most technically demanding areas of modern warfare, often likened to “hitting a bullet with another bullet” because of the extraordinary speeds, altitudes, and precision required to successfully intercept an incoming missile.
Until now, the development of U.S. missile interceptors has largely been concentrated among a relatively small number of established defense contractors. That landscape, however, is beginning to change as the U.S. military seeks to introduce more affordable systems and expand the industrial base supporting missile defense.
The U.S. Missile Defense Agency (MDA) has awarded New Mexico-based X-Bow Systems an $11 million Phase II contract to develop and flight-test the X-Bow Low-Cost Interceptor. The effort is being pursued under the Rapid Response Small Launcher Technology initiative, which is intended to accelerate the development of affordable, high-speed interceptors capable of addressing an evolving range of threats, including ballistic, hypersonic, and cruise missiles.
The development represents an important step toward diversifying the U.S. missile-defense industrial base while pursuing lower-cost interceptor technologies.
This is such a crucial development, a detailed examination is needed.

Ahhh, that ring in the morning!
Cool, a new interceptor!
What about the quad packed, VLS launched ESSM on every ship?
Good idea but the only real why to reduce cost is a joint program with USMC and Army for a common missiles that works for everyone
This right here is exactly why we’re going to see a global nuclear war very soon watch and see America 🇺🇸
I think I’d be focused on building a whole lot more shipyards or at least starting to build more shipyards to build and replace and repair our warships that the United States Navy doesn’t nearly have enough of today as our navies being forced to extend the life of our out dated warships in our inventory today and the Navy knows it. Trying to design develop conduct all of the R&D to all of these many stop gap measures isn’t going to work and our navy commanders know that as well we need more newly constructed warships period , if not you better hope and pray the DoD defense contractors designs and develops several super duper cheap hypersonic ballistic missiles. Simply put our military’s in trouble and the joint chiefs know it and have testified before congress about it too. But it’s all the fault of all of our corrupt politicians on Criminal Hill today. To allow our country from having over thirty shipyards down to only 3/4 today is definitely the fault of our politicians on Criminal Hill. At least we had 250 yrs of kicking every other nation’s asses and we had a good run but I’m afraid those days are over America 🇺🇸 so I’d suggest learning how to speak Russian or mandarin or both cause it’s coming soon know that America but blame our politicians on Criminal Hill
Not pretty high, very high!
Have electronic modules manufactured in Taiwan!
The only way to win is not to play. The best defense is a good offense.
I suppose we need a few, but it's a loser's game, always MUCH cheaper to overwhelm with offensive volume.
Drones especially should be opposed with defensive drones – possibly with mini-missiles.
Unless they can knock down per-missile under $100k (Buckler?), and even then, we're still in the wrong game.
The large defense contractors need competition, looks like maybe they will get some. About time.
We've let our acquisitions and production atrophy for decades. And now we are playing catchup to fix it. But at least the problem is finally getting addressed.
Having better options for rolling airframe launchers is HUGE. This is because they can be reloaded at sea and 1 small launcher has something like 20 missiles. It frees up VLS.
UA will use these and Patriots, THAAD more urgently…😢
SM6 isnt $10 mill. Its around $5 mill each.
We basically wasted all those missiles on Iran just to accomplish nothing, our enemies are laughing.
