Luxon on Māori-Crown relations: ‘There’s more division’ | Q+A 2024

Prime Minister Christopher Luxon says Māori-Crown relations are “probably worse” than they were a year ago, but race relations were already deteriorating under the previous Labour Government over its policies on co-governance.

On the Treaty Principles Bill passing the first reading, Luxon says it reflects the “reality of the MMP environment”.

The Prime Minister was also asked about the economy, child poverty, and climate change.

Does not regret agreeing to the Treaty Principles Bill.
I am watching in August 2026, after 2 failed coups.
If this arrogant becomes a leader again after everything that has happened to our country, I will be giving up on this country and the people in it.
The performance of this government is really, really shocking.
I have just finished watching a programme about our thousands of homeless people.

  4. All Coalition leaders and media should be arrested and their asset confiscated and face the courts for putting Al Qaeda together and legislating the spy law on fabricated information, if every single person in new zealand founds out National Party is finished for ever

  6. Business Closures
1,270 businesses closed in just the first half of 2025 (12% increase year-on-year)
50,000 jobs lost since Luxon took office

    Transportation Costs
Auckland fares increased 5.2% in February 2025
Wellington fares increased 3.1% in May 2026

    Healthcare Crisis
GPs are unable to order diagnostic tests due to funding constraints
Prescriptions are being restricted—patients told to "wait and see" instead of getting proper investigations
The government's 4% funding increase doesn't cover inflation
The 12-month prescription policy is a band-aid that doesn't address the structural underfunding

  7. This government is still backing Seymour against Māori let’s get together and all vote labour and get this government and coalition out of government. This government has picked on women pay rights also the your just out of school the old with trying to up retirement age. The government workers cutting jobs. And another 9000 are going under this government and coalition. MPs and pm should take pay cuts 1st. Can’t even bring down cost of living after 4 years there word is crap and so are there promises. As kiwi are poorer under this government and coalition we need to get them out.

  8. Have you ever seen someone taking a benefit or welfare and their reaction when you cut those handouts?
They make a lot of noise and throw their toys out of the cot.
These Iwi are no different except they speak Maori and have media help draw attention to their tantrums. They've been getting reparations for half a century and we are as a country still no closer to solving their grievances.
In fact the opposite l, they have more grievance and claims than when they started.
Time to turn off the Waitangi tribunal and move forwards as one nation with one law under the crown and our democracy.
Let's remove all race based programs and privileges.

  9. FFS this is not important to the majority of New Zealanders.
Cost of living and being able to make ends meet is the more critical issue.
Stop wheeling out this Maorification rubbish at every opportunity.
    Not important.
