Trump deserves credit for securing the border, but that alone doesn’t make his presidency a success. On too many other fronts, he has failed the Americans who actually work for a living.
What this country needs is a smarter, more economically independent conservatism—one that isn’t so beholden to billionaires, corporations, and wealthy donors. A strong America requires a strong and prosperous middle class: affordable housing, decent wages, accessible healthcare, good jobs, and a realistic chance for young people to build the kind of life their parents and grandparents could afford.
Conservatism should be about preserving what made America successful in the first place, and one of those things was a broad, thriving middle class. If our economic policies continue enriching the people at the very top while ordinary Americans struggle to afford homes, insurance, healthcare, and groceries, what exactly are we conserving?
