How about people's names start with R. Should we pronounce as H such as Ricardo, Ronaldo -> Hicardo? Honaldo? Is that the correct pronunciation?

Muito obrigado, Bea. With regards to the pronucniaton of the letter "r", there are similar variations in Dutch, depending on the region and speaker. In Dutch the most common forms are a "rolled" or "trilled" r from the front of the mouth (like Spanish), and a guttural or uvular r from the back of the throat (similar to a French or German 'r'). Many speakers also use an English-like "r" sound at the end of words.

Who am I kidding. I'll never learn Portuguese. But I'll try.
What is your dialect? Since you did pronounce the S at the end of the word or syllable like how people from Sao Paulo usually do…. but pronounce the R differently from them anyway.

Sou falante nativo de inglês britânico e agora dou aulas de inglês para minha sobrinha brasileira (do Tocantins), que assim como eu mora na Itália e é praticamente bilíngue em italiano. Aproveito para aprender português para poder falar com meus bisnetos que moram no interior de São Paulo. Compreendo muito bem o português escrito, mas minha pronúncia é influenciada pela língua da minha esposa, que é o galego, muito parecido com o português europeu em vocabulário e gramática, mas não na pronúncia e ortografia, mais semelhante ao espanhol europeu (castelhano), o que é muito menos justificável e penso que é feito para fazer com que o Galego pareça mais diferente do português do que realmente é, por ex. A Coruña / A Corunha ou coello / coelho. Novamente, obrigado.

You said the r is pronounced like the American h when its at the beginning of a word, but why does that not apply to "roxo" aka the color purple?

Muito obrigado. I managed to pronounce the tongue twisters 😅 although I often have difficulty hearing the definite and indefinite articles between words in Portuguese , such as “pregou um prego”.

Interesting lesson! I once said 'Rio de Janeiro' and the guy said whaaat?? and I repeated 'RIO DE JANEIRO' lol He replied no no no.. it's 'hiu dji janeiru' I didn't ask much about the R pronunciation… Thank you for making this!
