You guys have it all wrong. The B-29 was to drop fresh water to the survives of ship that got sunk by the Germans that the Germans were towing. Then al of a sudden B-29 suddenly drop a bomb ,that hit one of the life boat's. Their was also two more u boats subs helping ,heatenstyne. One of the cooks got a medal for cooking thousands of pancake's . The British were upset at the Americans for bombing their citizens,and killing some of them . We did it because the Germans are not to look like heroes. We made them look like streat up killers in our news reals before the movie. In fact they would surface give you a rubber raft and some water if you didden' t have any. I herd they didn't give Hitler's hi hell hitler sulute. I know Hitler was not fond of the navy . @01:05:34 Americans literally bombed a lifeboat of survivors that a UBoat was trying to save, and was being assisted by multiple other UBoats under the orders from the Central Command. This whole story about a trained pilot not being able to understand morse code while it circled the UBoat for several minutes, obviously sounds like it was invented to save face after their murderous actions.

Suicide vehicles are the stupidest thing I've ever heard invented. It's not macho, it's not brave, it's not honorable. Plain stupid. I would have instead designed a submersible with the same speed but with a single smaller, but potent torpedo in the front of the craft. The submersible launches the torpedo just before they hit the ship and sail underneath. That way, they can speed up on the ship they're targeting, send off the torpedo, then duck out of harm's way at the last minute. Dangerous, but better than suicide missions…

The Laconia was an American war crime. The episode is treated more favourably in this video than actually what heppened.
So the Borie deliberately sank the surviving U-boat crew. According to postwar official records, there was no German sub in the area, so obviously Hutchins made up that story.
