‘A toss up’: Senate control up for GRABS as Trump’s economy drains GOP campaigns before midterms

With midterms just around the corner, Republicans are rushing to prove their worth as they contend with President Trump’s record low approval ratings and Americans struggle under high prices. The latest polling shows voters massively disapprove of how Trump is handling the economy, which is putting a drag on Republicans having to defend his record ahead of the midterms. MS Now Reporter Nnamdi Egwuonwu joins The Weekend to break down what he heard at yesterday’s GOP BBQ fundraiser, then MS Now’s Elections & Analytics Director Kabir Khanna gives us an update on midterm update at the big board.

  1. I wish people would give these monsters less time to think and plot than anyone has time to explain to cops or ICE that they're inocent or got the wrong person before abducting them.

They always give actual criminals time to plot, hide and blame and they never do the time they deserve.

  2. So then it’s fine to support the far right of today’s GOP? Today’s GOP are not moderate, not even remotely. But, that’s ok?
Look at the mess these two senators (Grassley and Ernst) have helped create! These two hypocrites are as far right as you can get! They are literally helping Trump destroy our democratic republic! And so will any newly or re-elected member.
These members will green light all of trumps insane bidding irregardless of how badly it hurts their constituents and this country.
They and Trump are as far, far right and off their nut as you can get.
If the left is far, far left… at least they want people to have healthcare, affordable housing, affordable daycare, safe and affordable food, education and educational opportunities.

  3. Demonizing socialism' is just a scare tactic. We want market productivity, not state bureaucracy. If we isolate fortunes of $30 million or more and shift taxes away from work and onto stagnant land value, we rescue individual agency. Taxing raw land forces billionaires to stop hoarding vacant space and build affordable housing. Meanwhile, untaxing labor lets workers keep the take-home pay needed to accumulate capital. Shifting the burden from sweat to static wealth isn't anti-freedom—it is how we save the American Dream."

  4. There is no House or Senate. It's all Trump and his goons. He's going to overturn every single election in which he doesn't like the results – and SCOTUS will let him. Just wait. It'll be the end of our Democracy.

  5. I'm a 73 year old Iowa Democrat. Born and raised here and vote in every election. Republicans have had control of this state for 15 years. Under Republican leadership, Iowa is ranked last in the nation in economic growth. One thing they have succeeded at is poisoning our lakes and rivers due to agricultural runoff and sewage. Iowa Republicans refuse to regulate farmers runoff. Iowa has the highest and fastest growing cancer rates in the United States. The rivers and lakes of my childhood are not safe to swim in any longer and it gets worse every year. Way past time for a change!! Grassley is 92 years old for Gods sake! Ernst only got elected because she said she castrated hogs growing up! Iowa farmers swallowed that one, hook, line and sinker. Governor Kim Reynolds is flying around the state in a plane purchased with Covid funds! She got caught using 21 million in covid relief funds to update computers in her office and for employee salaries. ENOUGH ALLREADY!!

  6. Republicans voted for the big ugly bill that will take healthcare away from millions and give billionaires tax exemptions. And they will not vote for the Epstein files to be released to help congress get the names of those people who are in the files so they can be prosecuted. And they have the nerve to say they are working for their constituents.

  7. The Republicans didn’t talk about what their voters were interested in because they have no plan to help with what they’re concerned about. So all they could do was throw out the same old trigger words they’ve been using for years.
