After many reports of failed filters and the AMA banning them for 2 race seasons K&N recalled a handful of their oil filters and redesigned the nut and oring to make them safer. I inspect and test these new filter designs and see how much abuse they can take. Is K&N a good filter brand still? What do you think?

What im hearing is 80foot pounds is the sweet spot
The only thing I don't like is the price. But I only use K&N or Royal Purple.
K&N or Ford Motorcraft are my rules to live by
They sold and moved manufacturing to india lmao.
I stopped using these on my r1 because the filter itself is located between the block and the headers so lots of heat exposure. No one wants oil dumping in front of their rear tire
I bet the nut only broke off from the weld you did
My have only used KN filters on my bikes, no idea if any others are good but I've never had problems with them
After welding onto it I would question that it would be structurally compromised.
No issues on my 05 shadow, I've used k&n for more than half a year with not a single leak k&n 303 to be exact
A reminder that the dealer filter is always superior.
The quality of the oil and filter is less important compared to how often you change your oil and filter save your money change your oil on time you will see no longevity issues
I was using them in my BMW, but was having problems with it failing. The car also came with a K&N air filter, but they don't filter well under testing so I replaced it with an OE filter
Junk
Great example of murphys law
I do not use k&n oil filters because they tend to have larger micron thresholds. Also i really need the added oil flow. If i did id probably switch to a remote oil filter adapter and get some of them massive fuck off filters
Wix filters. FTW!
slant sided nut with rounded corners. terrible.
They're too expensive for the nut gimmick imo
I normally run mobil 1 filters or oriellys in house microgaurd
But on any fords ive owned i buy motor craft filters
Filters are put on hand tight, not torqued at 90/lbs with torque bar. Hardly a k&N issue… user error maybe.
Why use anything but OEM
80 ft lbs… You know some people actually torque close to that and wonder why the mechanic wants to slap the shit out of them.
The K & N filter that i recently got had no welds on it, maybe they stopped doing it as it was a point of failure?
these, mobile 1, and ACdelco are the only filters my old tired engine will run properly with. Anything else clogs too quickly. I’ve had no issues with k&n but I usually use mobile 1 for the price
I once did an oil change on a car that had this and that nut came off very easily
Safety wire is great! Don’t have to worry about anything falling off
K&N is overpriced crap for preppy people
I use the toyota filters, cheap at my local walmart
Most no longer made in USA. Next….
Denso or Wix…
Ive used these for years, no issues
I have used K&N on my 2018 GT-R Black Edition since new; haven’t had any problems.
Also on my F-150.
Idk seems like a waste of money, I’m sure just the filter is probably $40
Never cared for K&N oil filter. The nut just seemed like a gimmick for the high price. Would rather buy Mobile or OE
Purolator Boss and nothing else
The removal nut is pointless, if you have a K&N filter, you did your own oil change. Since you did your own oil change, you should be able to turn the filter off by hand.
Its my go to choice
I used this oil filter and went ridding a few times until the gasket gave out at high rpm causing immediate loss of oil pressure causing all 4 rod bearings to spin and overheat destroying the crankshaft, and all 4 rods
Who tf is torquing down their oil filters
Still beyond unacceptable quality for something marketed as a premium product and priced as such.
Defenetly not! I have used a k&n oilfilter. Yesterday i want change the engine oil after 4500 km (kawasaki kz 440). The engine oil was very black, that's normal. And than, great surprise…the removed k&n oilfilter …was difficult to remove…and after removing.
THE OIL FROM THAT FILTER WAS GOLDEN COLOURED!!!
THAT MEANS THE FILTER HAS NOT DONE ANY WORK!
so you are in danger that the engine could be damaged!!!!
Sorry for english mistakes.
I am from germany.
NEVER BUY THAT S… !
