【summary】
Hoping to prove his feelings, Avery answers Elena’s question with a gift: an old poetry book containing “Drink to me only with thine eyes,” a graduation gift he prepared for her seven years ago but never gave, because the two missed each other on graduation day and abandoned their plan to see the ocean together. Avery then invites Elena to a family friend’s island wedding this weekend, giving her two days to think it over. While helping Elena choose furniture for her renovation, their lingering chemistry resurfaces through playful teasing about mattresses and “the bed at my place.” Urged by her friend, Elena goes clothes shopping for the first time in years and buys twenty outfits at once, sparking suspicion that she is in love. On Saturday, Elena shows up with two suitcases full of “secrets,” and Avery reveals his family’s wealth by taking her on a private plane to the island. When Elena finally asks why they were never together seven years ago, Avery admits he doesn’t know — perhaps a twist of fate — and says he now just wants to live in the moment and cherish the person in front of him, as the two arrive at an island house for three days together, leaving a sweet yet suspenseful hook.
