There are lots of big words and astronomy terms
Let’s learn some Astro terms from A to Z
Come on everybody let’s learn Astronomy
A is for Astronomy – the study of the universe. The sun, the moon, the stars and everything beyond Our planet Earth
B is for Black Hole – a dark region of space, where the gravity is so strong nothing, not even light can escape
C is for Comet – Clusters of rocks, dust and ice orbiting the sun, slowly melting away and leaving a trail behind them
D is for dwarf planet – almost a planet, it has a round shape, it orbits the sun but with debris like asteroids from which it can’t escape
E is for Exoplanet – they orbit other stars. Not around our sun, They’re in solar systems outside of ours
F is for Flare – A Sudden burst of energy from a star, on our sun they’re called solar flares but just “Flares” on other stars
G is for Galaxy- Bound together by gravity, collections of stars systems, gas and dust in shapes and patterns like spirals you see
H is for Hydrogen and Helium – The gas ingredients that make up stars, the 2 most common and simplest elements in the universe by far
I is for Interstellar – The space between the stars. When we do interstellar travel we’re travelling between where stars are
J is for Jovian – anything relating to planet Jupiter –
Like Jupiter’s Jovian moons, or Jovian gas giant planets like our system’s outer four
K is for Kuiper belt – A doughnut-shaped ring of icy objects around the Sun, Beyond Neptune’s orbit, at the edge of our solar system
L is for Lunar – or relating to the Moon. The Moon’s name is Luna, That’s where we get this term
M is for Moon – a smaller object in orbit around a larger one, planets have moons, and dwarf planets too, even asteroids and comets can have some
N is for Nebula – Clouds of gas and dust in space. Some are nurseries for newborn stars and some are what’s left in a dying star’s place
O is for orbit – The circular path of one object around another, usually determined by the gravitational pull of the objects to each other
P is for Planet – Large, round objects revolving around a star. They don’t share their orbit with space debris, independent orbits they are
Q is for Quasar – The brightest objects in the universe, you see. Powered by black holes at their core with extremely powerful gravity
R is for Rocket – A vehicle used to launch people and things into space.
Using jets to propel it forward and beyond this place
S is for Solar System – An astronomy family – Planets, moons, asteroids, comets, and more orbiting a star all held together by gravity
T is for telescope – A tool that helps us look closely at the sky. You look through it and it makes objects look bigger because they’re magnified
U is for Universe – everything that exists anywhere in space, including all living things, and the billions stars and galaxies beyond this place.
V is for Visible light – the range of wavelengths or colors of light, that we can see with our human eyes.
W is for waxing and Waning – Waxing is to grow in size waning is to shrink, we use these terms to describe the moon’s phases, that’s the link
X is for X-ray – An invisible kind of light that can go, through most solid objects that’s why doctor use it to see your bones
Y is for Yellow Dwarf – The type of star that is our sun. Made up mostly of the gases Hydrogen and Helium
Z is for Zodiac – The constellations in our sky, that the sun passes through as a year passes by
