Karnataka Minister B Nagendra has resigned from the state Cabinet amid mounting political and legal pressure over the alleged Valmiki Corporation fund misuse case.
Nagendra announced his resignation on Friday and became emotional during his press conference. He maintained that he had no role in the alleged financial irregularities and accused his political opponents of targeting him because he is a Dalit leader. He said he would fight to clear his name and prove his innocence.
The Maharshi Valmiki Scheduled Tribes Development Corporation case has become a major political flashpoint in Karnataka. The Opposition BJP and JD(S) had repeatedly demanded Nagendra’s removal, while protests over the issue disrupted the state legislature. The alleged irregularities have been reported at around ₹89 crore to ₹187 crore, depending on the investigative and political account cited.
