Another Shorts extract form a 4 part video series that shows you what to expect when making a guitar using a CNC. In the parent episode, James makes a plastic pickguard for two Short-Scale Bass Guitars. The Gwen model is a Fan Favorite. Seeing the final video of how it is made is quite inspiring.

You are drilling the hole in preparation of the screw not drilling the hole with the screw therefore it is pre-drilling the hole. Kind of like pre-shrunk clothes, they could just be called shrunk but they're pre-shrunk because they're shrunk before you get them. Or a pre-cooked meal it could just be a cooked meal but it was pre-cooked in preparation for you before you got it.
Drilling: Simply making a hole for its own sake or passing a bit through a material.
Pre-drilling: Specifically making a preparatory hole before driving a fastener (like a screw or lag) into material. The prefix pre- highlights the sequence of operations – drilling first so the wood does not split when the screw goes in.
According to the Cambridge English Dictionary, pre-drilling means making a hole with a tool before doing something else, such as inserting a screw.
what a stupid observation, but you only have 9 likes so i liked and commented. HA!
Redundancy also pisses me off
It may have been Scott Walsh of @ScottWalshWoodworking. Sorry if Newfoundlanders were offended.
