California spent $114 million building a wildlife crossing over a ten-lane freeway in the Santa Monica Mountains near Los Angeles. The bridge is designed to give animals a safer route across traffic, with thousands of plants helping recreate their natural habitat. Construction required more than a decade of planning and complex work above an active freeway.
