Cambridge University has been branded a “laughing stock” as fresh scrutiny falls on academics within the same Faculty of Education at the centre of the Jason Arday controversy.
The university has announced an investigation into Professor Arday’s appointment and his time at Cambridge. Attention has now turned to sociologist Farah Ahmed and her reported criticism of Western education, liberal democracy and religious tolerance.
Speaking to Julia Hartley-Brewer, New Culture Forum senior fellow Philip Kiszely also highlighted reported remarks about seeking to “destroy and disrupt Western liberal democracy”, allegedly made by an academic involved in Arday’s interview panel.
Philip said: “They are telling us very clearly and very loudly what they want to do. They want to destroy the fabric of our society.”
He added: “Cambridge, one of our great educational institutions, has become a laughing stock.”
Julia argued that the Arday case may have exposed a much wider problem within British academia, saying: “I think Jason Arday has done us all a favour, and we can hopefully start the clear-out.”
