Fishing line strikes again. Without a doubt, this is the most common entanglement we find wrapped around seals’ necks. We regularly cut away both commercial and recreational fishing lines, pointing to a widespread issue of trash disposal across the board. From private anglers to large commercial vessels, the lax handling of gear shows a concerning disregard for marine life.
How did it get this bad? Is it out of sight, out of mind simply because the ocean hides what happens below the surface or on remote beaches? It’s heartbreaking to see fishermen harming the very marine ecosystem that sustains them and their families.
