On the last day of the 1971 Indo-Paksitani conflict, a pair of F-86 Sabres took off on a CAP mission. They were soon detected by Indian ground radars and a pair of MiG-21s were sent to intercept them. Flying at very low level, Indian MiGs manage to slip under the Pakistani Sabres and position themselves behind them. The situation looked like an easy kill for the superior fighter and Pakistani flight leader Flt Lt Maqsood Amir knew he couldn’t escape. His only option was to fight.
This is yet another reenactment from the Indo-Pak War of 1971 using DCS World as the platform.

Now, same thing probably would have happened when indian mig-21 (with mig 29 avionics) shot down a pak F-16 in 2019.

In the fog of war anything is possible, it depends on skill of pilot and opportunity he has at that moment of conflict.

Hey ! Vikram Sinhji here … son of the Harish Sinhji mentioned. I fly the slower A320 … He was flying Mig21FL regn C764 of the Indian Air Force on a search and destroy mission. There was one claim of an air to air kill on ejection seat history. However from all facts gathered including my Father’s testimony on record it was a AAA Hit to his aircraft. They were in Pak prison for a year with an attempted escape which was captured well in the movie you mentioned. Infact the jail blocks, PoW sweaters, were all taken from the original … worth a watch for any fighter avgeek!

Indian pilot screwed up… the old force overshoot trick…..the other MiG 21 could extend away…they were not designed for dog fighting but as high speed interceptor…they will wobble if not kept at high speed….Thanks for another great showhistory lesson.

This video is proof of "it's not the plane, it's the pilot." It is not surprising a pilot "in tune" with his plane, no matter how old or outdated, can defeat a better plane with a less experienced pilot.
You can give any pilot the best and most advanced aircraft out there. However, if he does not know his machine, then you will not get that far. The aircraft is only as good as the pilot uses it.
