My theory is that Shy hides her financial status and tells everyone she's rich but she got into this elite uni on scholarship. And at the end she realises that she's Bi/ lesbian and falls for Tara instead breaking the heart of the guy while Tara pushes her away as she's in a happy relationship but at the end while Shy reveales all truths about herself and is getting ready to leave this uni, Tara accepts her love too.
