Ford took a $19.5 billion hit to end the all-electric F-150 Lightning, but what did engineers actually find when they tore one apart? In this video, we open up the teardown by Munro & Associates, who bought a 2022 Lightning Platinum and analyzed it down to the last bolt. The frame, suspension and battery pack turned out to be well built, and the real problem was far less obvious than most headlines suggest. We break down the truck’s shared parts with the gas F-150, the battery and thermal system, Ford’s multi-billion-dollar EV losses, the end of the federal tax credit, and the December 2025 decision to replace the Lightning with an extended-range EV. Then we reveal the one number about the Lightning that almost nobody talks about, and what it means for Ford’s next electric pickup. If you like data-driven breakdowns of the biggest stories in the car industry, subscribe so you don’t miss the next teardown.

Ford veered left and the right. Toyota held the course while paying lip service to the nammys.
