When are you going to switch it on EDF you been naming a date since Mohammad was a made up character. What's the date of switch on?
Hinckley will never be switched on ever. Like every government project it will fail. HS2. No.10 North. That's all of the governments projects outside of Balfour Beatty
Whaat a useless company EDF are. Thet punish customers for being energy efficient by threatening to cut customers off with an estimate .They are using a sharp practice to shake customers down for more money.n They have just changed their billing from monthly to quaterly. I got an estimated bill of £3550. I know for a fact I don't use more than £300 per quater. They asked for a reading as I reuse to have a smart meter. This is not to be economical for the consumer but to tell EDF when you are using the electricity as it is premium rate from 4pm to midnight. 4pm as the kids are coming out of school and people getting back from work. They charge more for premium rate which is why they try to force a smart meter on you. They also make money from selling your data. There needs to be a law in place to protect the consumer from this. I have wrote to them and told edf I catagorically I do not give them permission to sell my data.
They then ask for a reading. I take photos of the meters and send them in. I am very savvy regarding how I use my electricity and don't use gas. They don't believe the readings and accused me of fiddeling the meter. I told them to send a diagnostic team round so they send their people round to read the meter which confirms my reading as true. In the meantime the estimate was corrected and they said I was £450 in credit and the bill has been adjusted to another estimated amount 0f £1550. It states this is an estimate not a bill. How the hell can someone who uses £300 per quater be £450 in credit and still owe an estimated £1550?? I dont even use £1200 in a quater this is taking an absolute liberty. They then threaten to cut me off with an estimate NOT A BILL. I spoke to a solicitor who said this is out of order and they can't do it. They can only cut you off with a bill not an estimate.
I` have seen through their shennanigans and have sussed what their motives are. This is all a shake down to put extra money on the bill. Outraghed consumers phone up and complain and they've got you. You haggle they halve the bill some people would accept this but not me. why should I give them a years money for a quater. They will reduce the bill furthet and put £20 on the bill which the consumer happily pays thinking he's got a result yet pays an extra £20. If EDF do this to 200.000 people thats an extra £4 000 000 they've raised. I just want to leave this here so company officials know they have been sussed out. I am complaining to the ombudsman and nconsidering court proceedings just to give them a nasty bill to pay. A taste of their own medicene
The never ending story. SHOW ME THE MONEY!!!!
Physics graduate here. I respect the engineering, but the world has moved on. Nuclear doesn't pair well with cheap renewables.
"…..adopting an industrial mindset….." . You're only thinking of doing that now ? You really do take the Great out of Britain.
The purchase price of nuclear power from this plant will be 18-20 pence/kWh under that crazy contract when it goes online!
The strike price in 2012 was set at £92.50 per megawatt-hour (MWh) – in 2026 it is £140 per MWh.
And, based on the terms of the contract, it will continue to rise in line with inflation!
Pretty good video actually. Kudos the media team!
But will it be as good as Sellafield (formerly known as Windscale)?
What are we doing with the waste it will produce? No answers 😂😂😢😢😢
Yes but you are going to charge a fortune per unit the the UK.
CAN WE HAVE MORE VIDEOS
Why do things cost so much more to build in the uk?
Where is you’re uranium coming from?
qué pasada
Indeed, the Kettel settlement is the UK has ever devised.
More of these would be a game-changer. Wonder when it will be completed?
10% of the current electricity demand, likely to be a lot less due to huge AI datacentre projects and widespread electrification in the future
Incomprehensible
all this to boil water
Amazing I will be 75 yrs old once this is done. Incredible piece of engineering.
Only problem is the French have a 76% stake in OUR energy, China have the remaining share!
Stupid decisions like this will end us!
Looks like an overly expensive shit show, glad I never took on roles offered.
How much is it?
The most expensive way to make electricity then all these people here will be whining about how expensive their electricity bill is, some people are very weird. Massive delays and huge costs I suspect these people don't support HS2 but strangely this white elephant that's years behind schedule and billions and BILLIONS over cost.
Incredible
We will no longer need this very soon. The gravity flywheel generator has arrived.
Home grown power owned by the french and china, is any infrastructure in britian actually owned by britian?
The most expensive waste of tax payers money world wide, a real French rip off project to go along side their migrant export scheme, scandalous.
I have a feeling we're gonna stop building reactors for 50 years again, so the next generation will have to figure it all out from scratch again.
What a waste of money time and people, Who needs incredible centralized behemoths but 3x renewables and battery costs that are disaster proof . I bet these not even taking account of faster than expected sea level rises that joe public will be bailing out forever . Shameful .
Will electricity bills go down when it comes online?
Astonishing😮
china would have finished this in a year..
Too late. All Life.
Fukushima.
"Reliable home grown power" owned by foreign companies and profits also sent abroad…..
Shame it's not a British company building and running it but still impressive.
STOP COLD CALLING ME YOU SCAMMING BASTARDS
In 1985, as we lived 15 miles from Hinkley we were allowed to tour A and B reactors. Aged 8, I never worried about melt downs again. Hope when you finish in 2060 -3000 😉 that you do more like this for locals.
Ridiculously late and over budget so I'd be ashamed not gobby pal.
.
Watch them build a data centre next door and take all the power
youre overdoing it a bit, just put the hot rocks in the water
Budget Overrun
* Original budget (2016 approval): ~£18 billion (in 2015 prices)
* Current estimated cost (2026): ~£35 billion (still quoted in 2015 prices)
So:
* The project is roughly £17 billion over the original budget
* That is about 94% over budget (almost double the original estimate)
If adjusted into today’s money with inflation:
* Analysts estimate the effective cost is now around £48–49 billion in current prices
Schedule Delay
* Original expected operation date: 2025
* Current expected first reactor startup: 2030
So the project is currently:
* About 5 years late
Construction officially began in 2017, meaning:
* Original build expectation: ~8 years
* Current expectation: ~13 years
At £50bn, very roughly:
Technology Assumed build cost Capacity £50bn could build Annual output in UK
Utility solar PV ~£0.6–0.9m/MW 55–80 GW ~50–80 TWh/yr
Onshore wind ~£1.3–1.8m/MW 28–38 GW ~75–115 TWh/yr
For comparison, Hinkley Point C is expected to generate about 26 TWh/yr, around 7% of UK electricity demand.
So, on a pure capex-to-energy basis:
* £50bn of solar could produce roughly 2–3x Hinkley’s annual output
* £50bn of onshore wind could produce roughly 3–4x Hinkley’s annual output
But the caveat is big: Hinkley gives firm baseload-style output; solar/wind need grid upgrades, storage, curtailment management, interconnection, demand response, and backup capacity.
Even with that, the comparison is brutal: renewables buy vastly more nameplate capacity and annual MWh per £ than new UK nuclear.
Well done everyone on the project for their hard work. Looking forward to more updates!
