So….. a building. Am I missing something.
IFC2 isn't the tallest, ICC is.
So, it looks like a visionary (?) modern building. Couldn't the developers come up with a more glamorous name than "Central Yards"? Truly, one of the most boring names imaginable; something NYC would use. 🤔🫤
Is it necessary to mix square-feet and meters in one sentence? What's wrong with square-meters and meters?
Tallest Building in Hong Kong is actually the International Commerce Centre (ICC) which is in Kowloon, great vid tho!
At 7:53 the map zooms out to show Harbour City just across the harbour in Tsim Sha Tsui which is longer, incorporates retail, offices, and hotel, and was opened in the 60s. This development isn’t noteworthy for its length, functions, or architectural design; rather the cost of the land lease and prominent location within the city.
First time I heard that term I think was for the new apple headquarters
7:28 "YOU CAN'T PARK THERE!"
Could you please use meters more consistently? Sometimes you provide measurements in meters, while other times they are left out entirely.
Swear ive seen cheesecake factories at least 1/4th the size of that 😂
Did you guys just rebranded a building?! 🙄
Stop trying to make “groundscraper” work! It’s never going to work!😂😂😂
It's called townhomes in North America
So… just a regular big building? 👀😏
Like malls? Terrace buildings? Etc..
It's called a mall and HK doesnt need more.
This will be finished before the LAX people mover 😂
What am I missing? We build high because land is scarce and expensive. This 'groundscraper' requires up to ten times the amount of land (footprint). How is this a solution to anything?
Its called an arcology
idk – it looks like it could also be built in New York, Chongqing or singapore. the design is "modern" but has no soul.
7:31 can someone explain why there's a car on an island in a pool??
Lots of people here calling it a mall, but the low profile isn't really a design choice. As far as I know, the Central harbourfront sites sit under strict height limits so the ridgeline view from across the harbour stays intact, so on a plot this valuable the only way to get the floor area back is to build long instead of tall. The upside is floor plates far bigger than any tower can offer, which is exactly what banks and big tenants pay extra for. Curious whether all that green roof counts toward the allowed floor area, or if it was the trade the government asked for in return.
Guess whose funding this?
Would be a nice trend
7:32 😂 that is just about the dumbest promotional art I've ever seen. There are more people in the band then there are audience members. Why is there a car in the middle of the pool(?)… reflecting pond(?) or whatever that is supposed to be. More to the point who wants to try and listen to an open air performance, of anything, in the middle of a very loud city?
just waiting until "groundscrapers" gets longer and longer
$63BN ? who is going to pay for it?
The groundscaper named Squaire at Frankfurt/Main Airport ist over 600 m long
Ya it's a mall
Mixing metric units with American units is not a good look. Metric is best.
build up because it's cheaper and takes up less land so this doesn't make any sense but will be interesting to see what comes out of it. a layer raised covering the land entirely?
Singapore marina bay?
For continental Europe people – Can we get square metres on the screen as well?
I would have thought a ground scraper would be like the opposite of a skyscraper where instead of building up, its build downwards. But like the other comments its just a large low rise building. Which actually doesn’t resolve the issue of land scarcity which is what skyscrapers are for in the first place.
The design doesn't look like a landmark.
I don't get it. It's just a shopping mall, and much of SEA and East Asia have malls this size or even bigger.
