Pinduoduo is one of China’s major e-commerce platforms and is owned by NASDAQ-listed PDD Holdings, which also owns Temu. Founded in 2015, Pinduoduo became particularly well known for its group-buying model, where multiple consumers purchase products together, allowing manufacturers and merchants to sell larger quantities at lower prices. This model can reduce the number of distributors and retailers involved in the supply chain, helping some products to be sold at significantly lower prices. PDD Holdings reported revenue of RMB431.8 billion in 2025, while the number of active merchants across its platforms increased from 15.8 million in 2024 to 16.8 million in 2025.
Pinduoduo has become increasingly visible among Singapore consumers, helped by low prices and free shipping to Singapore on many eligible products. As of September 2026, it was ranked among the most downloaded apps on Singapore’s iPhone App Store. The platform also supports payment methods familiar to Singapore users, including PayNow. However, its Android availability remains a major limitation. Google suspended Pinduoduo’s official Android app from the Google Play Store in March 2023 after security concerns involving versions of the app that Google said contained malware. Pinduoduo disputed the allegations, and the app remains unavailable through Google Play, meaning Android users generally have to install it manually from outside the Play Store.
Another challenge is understanding exactly what is being sold. Some product listings can appear extremely cheap but may turn out to be accessories, replicas, dummy products or other items rather than the product a buyer initially assumes from the images. Language can also be a problem for Singapore users who are less comfortable reading Mandarin, while automatic English translations may be incomplete or inaccurate. Like other large online marketplaces, Pinduoduo also relies heavily on third-party merchants and has faced allegations and lawsuits involving counterfeit or misleading products. The company has measures to remove non-compliant listings and merchants, but buyers still need to examine listings carefully before purchasing.
Shipping can also take considerably longer than the initial processing time shown on the platform. Some users have reported waiting around three to four weeks for orders to arrive in Singapore, although Chinese-language newspaper Lianhe Zaobao has reported delivery periods of around two weeks in some cases. Pinduoduo’s combination of very low prices, direct-to-consumer or manufacturer-linked supply chains and group purchasing reflects the broader consumer-to-manufacturer, or C2M, model. If this model becomes more widely adopted, it could reduce the role traditionally played by distributors and retailers, although it remains uncertain how widely Pinduoduo itself will ultimately be adopted in Singapore.

Also because they do not have R&D sunk costs that original manufacturers have to bear. If we buy the cheap version of an original product, we would be indirectly depriving original manufacturers of recouping the sunk cost. In the long term, product quality will suffer.
Especially handphones, there are also security concerns. The price you pay would be the retail price and loss of privacy and confidential information. Five pairs of shorts for less than three dollars? You might be paying with your bank card details, name, address, etc.
But not all are like that. Just that you will not know which is a scam until you are scammed.
Hi, I just did a purchase from pinduoduo but I’m truly very worried if I would get scam or cheated. I’m from Singapore btw.
Any fellow singaporean can please advise or share your experience if you have made a purchase from pinduoduo.

You need to be smart to be buying from PDD or even Taobao, they are pretty much the same concept
-Always prioritise flagship stores or some icons (such as brand verified or maybe.. fake compensation x10) that differentiate them to those random sellers. They are already cheaper than most retail stores by around 30-60%, dont be a super cheapo la and say kenna scam when its so obvious that some listing are bad
-Always be able to wait, as shipping takes 2-4weeks. Till date, every thing arrives despite some are later than expected. My friend even got refunded before as the parcel went missing in transit, but at least got refund.
-Always go for more popular brand or x-years aged stores
-Always be prepared to write off loss for purchase something that arrived inaccurate and unable to "return" for refund. (the return part will almost definitely not worth at any sense)
wah $30-$40 just for a goodfeedbluecats mug, time to buy it from pdd
taobao stilll better it have more varity
So Apple don't have any issue with PDD app but google does. Wtf?
most pinduoduo appliances are china electricity standards which is 50hz. if you use a 50hz appliances on a 60hz electric plug it will make a noise and will not last long some are will broke whithin a day.
Been buying stuff on PDD for 1/3 price of the exact same item on Shopee 😂
I just downloaded pinduoduo. Pinduoduo is a buy and forget website, i can't remember what i bought delivered seens to take forever and most of the words is in mandarin. Difficult for those who doesn't know mandarin. Pinduoduo should have fixed all this before going global.
Can it speak full English or not? I stopped at checkout bec I don't understand
Ironically, PDDs ad appears here
About the shipping PinDuoDuo by freight is free but takes 3-4 weeks but I used the Airshipping and it took 5 days for my stuff to arrive.
Cost might be higher but lowkey worth
I kept seeing the ad everywhere. But it's so ironic they don't even have an app for android 😂🤡
I literally have bought a lot of products from PDD over years, right now still going ❤
Lazada better than pdd, Im buying for a branded product, not a cheapass lousy item
After using pdd for a month, I realised ive been scammed for 5 years using shopee and lazada. I’ve bought the exact same items on PDD that are listed on Shopee and Lazada, but for three times cheaper. E.g. shoe rack $4 but at shopee it cost $17. PlayStation icon light cost $8 but at shopee $30. Damn im never using shopee again unless its direct local store like nike, under armour etc. So far items at pdd at legit and reach my doorstep. Pdd just sounded the death note for shopee lazada🤣 Im enjoying pdd at the moment and have no problem waiting a month for orders to arrive. Because consolidate and arrive together.
Pros: cheap
Cons: long waiting time, lots of AI generated images, dubious quality for some items
For electronics, can consider getting from flagship stores on pdd
I only bought a backpack so far. Quality was good. Not super cheap but cheaper than Taobao by a bit.
Yea. If you expect something to arrive soon. You might be in for a long wait. Also even lazada has weird stores that turn up on lazflash which are cheap but never ship your products. And something u like to hands on and have service like shoes. You might want to still go to the retailer. Not to mention another one is the quality and warranty. If it is spoilt will you able to get it repaired or warrantied or you have to throw away. Also might be cheap knock offs if you dunno the brand or build quality.
PDD is like an dump for all the low quality products that are ready to be discarded.
Wait till u can ship it by air. It’ll be crazier
pin duo duo sells shit quality thing tbh..
honestly as a frequent taobao user. Use chinese app, learn chinese la. Dont' say western people can't understand and use it, i've seen even sinkie say they cannot read or communicate with the seller.
But this does sound intersting to use if the cost really lowers by that much, though I must say "一分钱一分货", you paying for an extremely low cost product likely the product itself is also low graded. Don't be surprise that charger you buy for $4 only last 2 weeks. Can use? Yes. But the seller didnt promote and say it will last what.
And while there are indeed some decent quality stuff being sold there at low cost, due to how everything is listed cheaply there it muddies the water, you cannot tell which is really good or bad
Heard about PDD long time ago and have every chance of using it but I refuse to support this app. Why do I want to use an app that single-handedly destroyed the retail scene and shopping malls in China? Singaporeans should stop using PDD and support local retailers. They are already having a tough time due to current economic conditions and using PDD will only hasten their demise
