  1. My Dad taught me about the gentleman should always walk on the road side, but he also taught me that only he, my brother, or my husband should help me into a coat because of where his hands can land.

It made it plenty awkward when my husband's friend tried to help me into my coat. I just thanked him and took it from him and put it on myself. 😂

  2. Actually, I will take away to never turn my bum to strangers on the tram. It's truly more considerate not to rub my bum in other's faces. I just never thought of it. Thanks!

  3. Does shed new light on how my great grand parents met, him following her quite far from the station where he helped her pick up her bag, all the way down a rather long train ride – neither were British mind you.

  4. I always thought that we stood on the outside of the street in case a car hit us rather than the lady. Makes more sense that we would take the splash. Very interesting thank you.

Equality, they say! equality! Haha Though I do respect women very highly, watching them obliviously let the door practically smack me in the face as I’m walking up behind them, rather than hold out for me, never fails to crack me up.

  5. wtf
why is it that women are treated like this
protective and reverent if you’re wealthy
like the chinese women of the 19th century who bind their feet

  6. Maybe it's because I'm from Texas, but most men in this area still exhibit modified versions of these behaviors, including standing when a guest leaves, if not also accompanying them to the door, walking on the street side of women, putting out a cigarette if found smoking, etc.

  7. I dont get the first one lol. Surely if you both leave the house together to get a "stranger" into a cab its more sus than just staying put. If anyone thought some shenanigans were going to go down at all it would be when yall were both alone out the front wouldnt it?
Id think staying right where you were would eliminate that opportunity all together, no? No one could accuse you of leaving together if you dont move at all.

  8. Yes I agree treat a lady with respect but unfortunately today we have far too many woke entitled feminists demand rights but offer little or no respect to real gentlemen.

  9. That convention of gentlemen walking on the curb side of pavements, to protect ladies from being splashed by the traffic on the road is dubious. Garrotting was a popular way for the rougher types to drag victims into alleys and dispossess them of their money and valuables (watches especially) throughout the 19th century and by obliging the ladies to walk furthest from the curb the gentleman was protected from an unpleasant sometimes lethal form of assault. Ladies did not carry much cash so less likely targets.

  10. These days I'll be trying to carry a whole couch by myself and the men will just sit back and watch. Ask for help and theyll start whining about how women wanted equality and I deserve this or whatever.

These are also the same men who are confused why they're single

  11. My husband insists that i walk on the inside of the sidewalk. I make it a game and dodge behind him and back to the outside side. I like to see how long till he notices 😂😅

  12. My grandmother (b. 1908) knew a bunch of these. No walking and smoking. Women entering first, men walking on the outside. Her mother was a governess for wealthy folk so that’s probably from where she learned them.
