I worked in Swedish schools for over a decade. Our meals were much better than what was shown. There were usually two courses, not including dessert. There was always a choice for vegetarians, a side salad to which you could go back and help yourself as much as you like and choices between milk, water and juice.. the teachers ate with students not to teach them table manners but because staff had the same lunch and were happy with it. Schools that had cookery programmes for students often had quite fancy menus and on certain days there'd be a rush for the starter and desserts – it would be announced at first break over the tannoy, or emailed in the news letter. 🤣 Meals were subsidised for some students and low earners/ part-time workers but even at full cost were a fraction of the cost of even bringing a sandwich. I ate well and healthily for years and miss it still.
