I’m experimenting with the Retevis RT95 / AnyTone AT-778UV to see if I can pull the receive/COS information from its serial line and use it with the TOADs DI board. In this video I probe the data, decode the signal and test it with an Arduino as the first step toward the new DI-AT daughterboard for AllStar, APRS and other digital modes.

Hayden what' are your thoughts on the cheating in ham contests like that went on in the world team contest. Should those be banned for a period and should they give back the first trophy. As well considering it looks like it was too achieved by cheating .
I suppose if I have a DI6 board, making an RJ45 to MiniDin dongle with a microcontroller inside to handle signalling COS would be the way to utilize what I already have?
I have no 6 pin radios. Got the DI6 for the RT95 mostly because it had all the pots and stuff for a clean audio path and intended to wire it up for modes that don't need COS
I have a full map of the one wire serial. I started this with AIOC a couple years ago but never finished. I wanted to build a script to control the channel via Allstar. One diode allows you to listen and control TX and RX on the onewire serial with a standard UART
Brilliant little radios these are, i have 3 currently (1 in my daily, 1 on my desk and 1 in my 4wd) and after seeing this i might get a few more to do APRS beacons for my cars BUT i had also been thinking of just modifying a cheap HT for that to keep cost down, like a baofeng k5 plus for the higher power. VK7PD got me looking into APRS for my cars.

That's a great feature however not a true cor in that it activates only on squelching and not behind say pl guard type situation. So you may have to search for that on the board inside the radio.

I'm an old guy that does not use digital modes, but doing things like this is what HAM radio is about.
I have been going rounds with Gemini and Copilot to find a suitable inexpensive production radio for allstar and it's a freaking unicorn because of the COS. I can't wait for this new TOADS board. TYVM!
For technical accuracy, at 3:36 you stated changing the “port 5600“ however you changed the “baud” rate.
Absolute legendary work Hayden. I have several of these radios so I'm very interested in this development. I'm currently using a couple as iGates with the Digirig Lite interface (and it works great), but getting COS out will be a game changer. Awesome work.

I must have missed something somewhere in your dialog. Why do all of that? I have the ANYTone AT-778UV 2 and I use the DigiRig and the DigiRig Cable and do all the digital modes I want. The one thing I do find annoying is that to switch between digital and voice I need to unplug the DigiRig cable and plug in the Microphone. Since these are such inexpensive radios, I will pick up a second radio and use one for digital modes and the other for voice.

I used to do testing like that decades ago with cellular and land mobile switching systems. It was easier when Motorola provided the test equipment or, working for a radio common carrier, we bought or rented the equipment. Really cool to see you doing it! 73 de WN7D

Can you comment on the PTT? I was under the impression these radios and the Anytone/ Radioddity clones, did not have a dry contact PTT. And that PTT was done via a serial signal. Though, your mic jack photo does not seem to show that. I had wanted to use one of them for packet, but without a dry contact PTT that is not straightforward. Thanks
It’s not exactly unknown. I’ve probed it with a Salaee logic analyzer and published some of the data that is sent over the serial line.

Several radios from different manufacturers have a same or similar microphone. I did a similar project with a Anytone AT-5888UV III tri-band radio, uses the same microphone.
