Anirudhya Mitra spent his years at India Today and The Times of India breaking the stories most reporters never got near: the Bofors scam, the Rajiv Gandhi assassination, the drug wars running through India, Pakistan and Afghanistan. His book Ninety Days, on the hunt for Rajiv Gandhi’s killers, became a national bestseller and the basis for the SonyLIV series The Hunt. His latest, The Delhi Directive, goes inside R&AW’s covert war and the operations Delhi will never admit to. He has spent decades cultivating intelligence sources, recording meetings no one knew were being recorded, and keeping notes on some of the most powerful men in the country. Blunt, precise, and completely unromantic about how the spy game actually works.

In this episode, Vinamre and Anirudhya discuss:

• How India’s intelligence machine is actually structured — RAW, IB, and the moment the NSA became the most powerful man in the room under Ajit Doval
• Dawood Ibrahim and Tiger Memon — why Mitra reads every Dawood attack as empire-building rather than pure terror, and the ISI deal that put him in Karachi
• The Nikhil Gupta case — Vikas Yadav, the Pannun plot, and what the life of a spy on a foreign operation really looks like
• Kulbhushan Jadhav, Lawrence Bishnoi, Goldy Brar — why a captured spy is kept alive, and what the Meng Wanzhou case reveals about how prisoner swaps really work
A.S. Dulat, the making of a R&AW chief, and whether intelligence agencies run on their own power or the government’s
• The craft itself — secretly recording meetings, keeping notes on powerful men, phone tapping, and what “off the record” actually costs
• Cultivating sources without becoming their mouthpiece — earning trust, resisting the narrative, and using AI to cross-check before you get played

  1. Aap bhi to apne aap ko chamkane ke liye vahi kar rahe ho promotion pr. Bhai sab Ko Paisa banana hai Sidhi si baat hi hai per country first hai jo galat Karega Jo dialogue chahta Hai Ab Ham nahin jaate dialogue dialogue ka hamesha Dhokha hi Mila. I respect your views but not every time not accurate.

  2. You blew it at the last minute. Just stick to your lane. Talk about what you know and politely pass on the questions you have zero knowledge about. If you apply the investigative journislistc mind to getting answers for Ram and Krishna being part of history, it takes no more than reading the Srimad Ramayanam and Srimad Mahabhratham, both of which have been beautifully translated by Late Sri. Bibek Debroy.

  3. Why are you worried about talking about historical figures like Ram and Krishna. You can't even stop Ambedkar becoming God as the contemporary of such worshippers. B.R. Ambedkar is being worshipped a God. Its just Bharathiya emotion to elevate a few people to God. The rest of the interview was fine.

  4. Two people ignorant of history doubting Bharathiya history. Mythology was used to refer to all events before 4000 BCE which is when the world "began" according to hard core Christians. The also agree its history. What is your problem? Plus, all you have to do is go to some museums or archelogy sites in Dholavira Gujrat or Aihole caves in Karnataka or places around current Kurukshetra etc. that "scientists" have dated. That will reveal Mahabhath appended and Krishna was present there. Similarly you can get copper plates that shows the direct decedents of Raja Ram. Yes, you can argue why people are worshiping Ram or Krishna.

  5. पॉडकास्ट का सब्जेक्ट अच्छा है लेकीन, मेरे भाई क्यो अपनी अंग्रेजी ज्ञान से हमे परेशान कर रहे हो??😢😢

  6. This seems more like a subtle leftist agenda. Who on earth would blindly believe in what AI says and this journalist says it is the source of truth.

And if you don’t know the difference b/w History and Mythology, better to introspect particularly if you want to continue your career as a journalist

  7. 18-19 minute: regarding the mistakes of Vikas Yadav. I can’t understand why these 2 guys think people cannot make mistakes. It’s literally when mistakes are made that people get caught and/or the operations are foiled.

  8. With due respect i kindly object to these kind of podcasts why is our strategies for national protection is discussed on social media please stop this by discussing this you people are harming more so many undercover people's life and their families life is at stake please don't discuss national security strategies on social media please .

  9. The simple explanation is that Vikas Yadav and Nikhil Gupta were just bumbling idiots and for all the vainglorioussness, there are elements of the R&AW, that like all other govt departments is hopelessly incompetent. Their stupidity cannot be used as defence. The guest dances around the entire thing without saying anything. Vinamre should have pushed him further instead of agreeing to everything he said. What is it that he is hinting at, should have asked.

  10. Bro very well designed podcast and its ok to talk in english but what's with that accent, I mean we as an audiance know you and thats not how you talk, why fake it? When this white supremacy mentality will end

  11. #@dostcast guest hindi main bat kar raha hain.. #Tu sala english janta hain ghar main bat kar.. This podcast is for the people of🇮🇳 jisko samajhna chahiye achhe se.. Spoken english class nahin hain yeh.. Next time yead rakh nehin to report +👎👎 padega..

  12. 38:53 if it quaks like duck, walks like a duck … it must be a duck. Just because Daulat was raw chief during BJPs rule doesn't give him a free pass… those early BJP govt were weak and riddled with Cong and Peki moles.

  13. Nobody chooses a life of torture by being a spy, we should bother about our true patriots and not be offhanded about Kulbhushan Yadav and Ravindra Kaushik, it is not fair the amount of torture they suffer
