He endangering another fellow officer k9 he should be fierd from ever being a cop make him a mall security or something
I wouldn't trust him with a pistol after that
This is the kind of guy that protects the community?? Take the badge off guy your not cut out for it. Go work at McDonald's 🐷🐖🐖 pig.
Glad axel is safe he's a fellow officer of the law and should be treated with respect hope the deputy gets reprimanded
The Lake County Sheriff’s Department needs to keep Axel and just reassign him to a different human partner. Our county pays a LOT of money to obtain and train those dogs. Don’t give away or sell him!!
The officer should be charged with Animal Cruelty, has everyone else. Also, if the K-9 would have injured anyone the government would have been sued. This officer is a liability, please follow up.
Poor Axl. Stupid handler, these dogs are trained to be dangerous and without the handler really bad things can happen. There is a video on here about exactly that. A K9 got out of the officers' backyard and ended up attacking a couple of people really badly, and they were hospitalized. It was obvious that the dog treated them as criminals, with no handler there to keep the dog contained.
No excuse. No reason why he claims he didn't know he left Axel. Dogs are naturally loud beings no way he didn't know Axel wasn't with him and if he is THAT unaware then he shouldn't be in a position where being highly aware and alert is the main part of the job because obviously he does not pay attention…
Deputy should be fired! Idk 1 K9 unit that uses the excuse I forgot my K9. No K9 officer ever ( forgets ) there K9. I'll take axel and give him a real opportunity at working for the community. He also looks way to thin. I know a police dept that needs one and is looking for a K9 unit right now if axel hasn't been taken yet
DOES Dick Ring A BELL?
A Hole !!
At least he wasn't left in a hot ass car with no ac and he was outside being a dog doing what dogs do
Scumbags loser
Need an immigrant George
Lock him up like they would do one of us
Shameful
Thank you for saving Axel…this was neglect by his handler.
Poor baby. Wow
😢❤
Officers looks like a little twirp hes gonna be screwed without his K9 all 5'8" 140lbs of him 😆 🤣 😂
Sad when the K9 is a better officer then the human.
Should be fired worse than leaving your partner in the bathroom at dunkin dounts
What a loser cop leaving his partner like that he should be fired terrible decision maker especially carrying a weapon!
His mother still refer to the cop as her failed abortion.
Animal abuse, horrible! Never should be allowed to own any animal.
20 minutes is not a long time to be away from him, BUT that was a reckless decision. That dog did wait in place as they are trained but what if it decides to go search for his human partner. What if someone had triggered and gotten attacked without the handler to make him or her heal
😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡
Bottom Line: The dog is property, and the department will sell him. The department will then buy another dog from TOPS and train another officer, only to potentially fail to adequately support that officer in being successful and healthy.
I have lived this experience with my own husband and family through our experience with TOPS and the Niles Police Department. Granted, I do not know the details of this particular story; however, I can make some very educated guesses. For an officer to make this type of mistake, I can assure you that he was exhausted, overworked, overlooked, and likely not adequately supported—mentally or physically—by his department and TOPS.
My husband worked the night shift with his K9, completed mandatory monthly K9 training at TOPS outside of his work hours, worked community events, and responded with his K9 to NIPAS calls, on average, twice a week. These calls could last anywhere from hours to days. It was exhausting and so concerning that I lost sleep and often found myself scared to death for my husband's and our dogs' well-being.
The department fails to look at the overall health of both the officer and the dog. How much sleep are they getting? Is it quality sleep? When someone isn't sleeping and regularly participates in traumatic events, their memory and recall can be significantly impacted. A K9 officer is regularly in a state of hypervigilance and will naturally struggle to relax, sleep, and rest.
There were times when my husband and his K9 partner would go days without sleep. A K9 partner is similar to a gun in the sense that both are considered department property. I can assure you that this officer did not simply “forget” the dog. There was more going on that we do not see in this article.
On another note, my husband notified his department that he was struggling one year after he and his K9 partner responded to the Highland Park Parade through NIPAS. Niles PD removed the K9 from our home within 24 hours. Three weeks later, he was sold for $3,000 to K9 ACTION to perform Metra security. We had attorneys. We fought. We lost.
TOPS training facility cares about its bottom line, and I believe the same can be said for the police departments. The best interests of the dog and handler will never be the focus. The only answer is to stop working with TOPS and significantly rework the way in which our departments utilize K9s.
And above all else, support our officers better.
Maybe the dog wasn’t listening and wouldn’t come back to him and he said screw it cause he had to get to that call and it was more important than trying to catch the dog? Just a guess or who knows maybe he’s was beating the dog and he just said, screw it and left behind?
Nothing going to happen to him he will get promoted to sergeant
Fire the officer
He needs to be fired!
What is the deal with these k9 cops lately? The one asshole left 2 of his dogs in a car and killed them, now this asshole. These guys are supposed to have a very special bond with these dogs. Im gettin pissed
That deputy should resign
Piece of shit lake county sheriff why ain't he charged
What a loser! Not only did he leave a dog in his care behind, but his PARTNER. This dog is his PARTNER. Think about that.
How in the world can you be a handler… Get a call and not tell the dog come on…… There needs to be more than just separating the canine from the handler.. handler needs to be removed from the Department….terminated…
The gall, to say that your dog is with you without even checking. I bet this officer lies alot on his arrests and tickets. Please fight any case that involves this liar.
Who does that wtf
Unfortunate for the officer and Axel that this happened. Glad no harm came to Axel and he was found safely. Lifting prayer's for the officer and his family going through this situation because im sure he's being reprimanded for his mistake and he would never intentionally hurt his partner.
The (now former) handler's story is absolute bovine excrement.
I hope he's never allowed near that dog again in any way, shape or form.
The citizen is a hero for rescuing the abandoned K9 and taking him back to the PD.
❤ K9 Axel ❤
Deputy droop-a-long….
This is the kinda guy that would forget his kid was strapped in car seat on a hot day while he goes shopping. Ignorance knows no bounds.
You got to be responsible!!!
Hopefully he doesn't have children!
HE OUGHT TO BE ASHAMED OF HIMSELF, THANK GOD SOMEONE SPOTTED HIM, HOPEFULLY HE CAN BE PAIRED WITH SOMEONE WHO WOULDN'T ABANDON HIM, THAT DEPUTY WILL HAVE NO GOOD LUCK FOR THIS EVIL THING HE DID!!😢😢
