In October 1927, the tanker M/T Lux caught fire while loading petroleum products at Steilene in the Oslofjord. With 80.000 litres of fuel on board, the burning vessel was towed away from the islands before eventually disappearing beneath the surface.
Lux had already lived a remarkable life. Originally built in Copenhagen as the Danish naval gunboat Schrødersee, she later became a survey vessel before being converted for civilian use and eventually serving as an oil tanker in Norway.
For almost a century, the wreck remained hidden in the depths of the Oslofjord.
In this film, Nordic Wreck Alliance follows the story of Lux from her origins in the Danish Navy to the dramatic events of 1927 – and our work to locate, investigate and identify the wreck 99 years later.
Using historical records, contemporary newspaper reports, sonar, ROV footage and technical diving, we connect the wreck on the seabed with the ship whose final hours were documented almost a century ago.
