Moses Itauma was supposed to be the future of the heavyweight division. At just 21 years old, the undefeated heavyweight prospect had been viewed as one of boxing’s biggest rising stars — explosive, powerful, fast, and even compared to a young Mike Tyson.
But Filip Hrgović had other plans.
In this video, we break down the shocking Moses Itauma vs Filip Hrgović fight and explain how Hrgović managed to stop Itauma in the 9th round and become the **IBF Heavyweight Champion of the World**.
For the first seven rounds, Itauma looked like the better fighter. His speed, movement, combinations, athleticism and southpaw left hand gave Hrgović serious problems. Itauma even scored a knockdown and appeared to be cruising toward another impressive victory.
Then everything changed.
Hrgović stayed patient, absorbed Itauma’s best punches, refused to panic while losing rounds, and continued dragging the 21-year-old into deeper waters. By the later rounds, Itauma’s explosive style began to catch up with him. His movement slowed, his punches became less effective, and his defensive ability deteriorated.
In Round 9, Hrgović took advantage and forced the referee to stop the fight.
So what actually happened to Moses Itauma?
Was this simply a case of a young fighter running out of gas? Did Hrgović expose a major weakness in Itauma’s game? How important was experience? And can Moses Itauma still become heavyweight champion?

bro are you just straight up reading AI script word for word, without any of your personal inputs?
it sure looks like it, and it's really bad.
Hrgovich's chin is not real for sure
He tried to blast him out of there early and when it didn't happen he just kept going hell for leather instead of just racking up the rounds. He was far better than Hrgovic in everything except stamina, and experience. His coaches need sacking.
yeah, knockdown was official…but only official. in reality non-existent, Itauma pushed him down after the punch so Filip lost balance
Filip happened in the ring
He’s just 21 yrs old and has a lot to learn, and hard lessons are often the best.
The problem is the kid couldn't take him out and it was obvious that was the only plan they had.
Yall downplaying those blistering body punches Hrga landed at the end of the 8th and the beginning of the 9th. Completely took the legs out of Itauma. From then on the writing was on the wall.
Unbelievable that he has never done 12 consecutive rounds of sparring. He had no concept of being taken into deep waters. Some welterweights — Pacquiao, for example — can go all-out over 12 rounds. No heavyweight can do that. It's a biophysics thing. Another thing is that experienced fighters know how to disguise their exhaustion. I imagine that Ali in the Thrilla in Manila felt even more exhausted in the 13th round that Itauma did in the 8th of his fight. But Ali had learned the value of a poker face and looking as though he had more energy than he actually did. Being a master of disguise can dishearten your opponent in the late rounds. It weakens the will of an equally exhausted opponent. Showing your exhaustion, especially in the exaggerated way Itauma did, is like throwing blood into waters filled with sharks.
Even Frank Warren said he what he would have like Moses to do. Everyone in the world except the idiots in his corner. They should have told him point blank. Take it easy for two rounds. He must have been able to ease off, despite what some say, but he hadn't trained for it and his corner didn't tell him.
Tyson a boxing prophet
You forget that Hrgovic is definitely stronger.
Do you get paid the same if you’re dragged out on a stretcher 😂😂😂
Moses needs to hire James Toney. Toney never got tired.
Moses lost heart
Simply cannot imagine him fighting the likes of Frazier or Norton who throw bombs for fifteen rounds..
MOSES ITAUMA IS A JOKE !!! YOU CANNOT COMPARE ITAUMA TO MIKE TYSON. MIKE'S EARLY RECORD WAS 20 WINS 20 KNOCKOUTS 0 LOSS. MIKE CAN GO 12 ROUNDS WITH JAMES " QUICK " TILLIS WHO IS BETTER BOXER LIKE MUHAMMAD ALI. MOSES ONLY FOUGHT PIZZA DELIVERY BOY AND TRUCK DRIVERS.
Lost like a "bum" .. true GenZ attitude. Trying to correct Mike.. knowitall huh…? Well now you KNOW… you're the bum…
More like a lesson from God.
My guess is we’re never going to see the same Moses we did before the Hergovic fight.
He has weak defensive and lateral movement. He doesn't move after getting jabbed. Hrgovic figured that out and exploited it.
Now this is the difference with Tyson. He was dangerous from I to 12 and he wasn't tired in any well at least the youth tyson. He was a different pedigree. Frazer alli them guys trained for 15 rounds. That's the diffrence
needs to go to mayweathers gym
Hrgović also said Itauma's punches are not powerful, he needs to pace himself but also train for more power to be more efficient, not just fast but powerful.
God bless you Champ!
…you deserve it
Mr Hrgovic you deserve the win. You are a genuine honest champ
Whatta strong chin
Tyson is a different breed altogether, plus he had Cus, the forces of darkness and light combined created perfection.
I doubt that Moses Itauma will recover and transform this defeat soon…
Hrgović came to the game with the song "genes of rock", and like a rock he stood, till Ithama passed out. Reminds me of how Homer Simpson won boxing matches.
One loss and he's toast???
Give me 100.000 Croatian soldiers and I'll Conquer the World – Napoleon Bonaparte
he steped up in class before he was ready
Remember what another Croatian(-Canadian) world-class boxer, George Chuvalo, said after his legendary fight with Mohammad Ali that he lost on points: "After the match, Ali was taken to the hospital, and I took my wife for an evening out, dancing." 😂
Heavy weights should stop listening to the hype and crowd expectations. They buy into it and start trying to act it out, and that usually doesn't end well. Only the Legendary Muhammad Ali have been able to do that, and it takes a Lot to be that.
Hrgovic is an absolute unit, a tank! But also a great man.
Proud of my countryman.
I hope Moses can recover and get his head straight.
