“My Heart Is Racing, My Hands Are Sweaty…But I’m Here” #DoctorsAreHuman

The update so many of you asked for 💛 Dr. Bayo went to the dermatologist about the dark streak on her nail — heart racing, hands sweaty, nerves shot, and there anyway. She asked everything she’d been afraid to ask: why is it getting darker, is there anything else to be concerned about — and she told her doctor about the anxiety itself. The answer: yes, the color has darkened, but there are no new signs that would indicate cancer. Two lessons rode along: confirm your doctor’s office location if it’s been a while (they move!), and bring your fears into the exam room — they belong in the conversation.
To everyone who commented, supported, and shared that doctors having medical anxiety made you feel less alone: this update is for you. I’m human just like everybody else 💛

  1. Thank you for being so vulnerable. On social media especially, that can be so hard. You are such an open and giving professional and person. Your sharing this journey is much appreciated.

  2. Thank you for documenting your experience and how you felt. You were able to share your concerns with your doctor and it helped your Anxiety. I'm glad you feel that you should be okay and i'm praying for both your spiritual and physical health ✝️🪽💜🪽

  3. Dr Bayo, I love your channel and this video really hit home. To actually see a physician share the same fears and anxieties many patients have is a good lesson. I am 18yrs-post bilat mast and I still have medical appt anxiety. I appreciate you sharing this so very much.
I also grateful for the questions you suggest asking at an appt – I often feel at a loss with a symptom or a fear because I don't know the best way to explain it and then feel dumb if I can't get it across to the doc. Please keep making these wonderful videos – they are so helpful. ❤

  4. How do you know its not cancer related?
Did they do scans/testing or just talk you into believing its normal?

Thank you for sharing btw. You have the perfect mix of compassion and curiosity towards helping others and you deserve the same in return ❤

  5. Thank you for being valuable and sharing your story with us. You're so brave! I think it's so important to hear that doctors are just people like us. You're so kind and have helped me in many ways, and I appreciate you. I'm so glad to hear that your anxiety went down. I have medical anxiety as well, and I completely understand how hard it is leading up to your doctor's appointment. I'm relieved that it doesn't look like cancer. Again, thank you for sharing. 🫂❤

  6. Thank you so much for sharing this. As a person who was diagnosed with Anxiety/Panic attacks 35 years ago, I really appreciate medical professionals admitting they have any kind of anxiety. Also…I have all kinds of weird skin stuff going on. I'm a fair-skinned redhead & have had many really bad sunburns (several of them before age 20) & I'm post-Menopausal, so many changes with my body since I turned 50 (6 years ago) & my fear of skin cancer is always swimming around in the deepest recesses of my mind.
It's a relief to know that doctors also have anxiety because a lot of them act like they don't. Hospital administration/HR who do the hiring, insist on a drug screen before hiring (which is a good thing) but when I disclose that there will be Benzos in my system, they act like I'm shooting heroin or smoking crack. I don't abuse my meds. But I guess they consider me a possible liability? Honestly, I'm not a doctor/surgeon or RN…I'm low on the Totem Pole, so operating on patients, diagnosing patients or administering medication is not something I do.
It's a shame that in the medical field there's still stigma surrounding anxiety & anxiety meds.
So what did your doctor think about your nail discoloration?
You know, I have heard that the nails can show recent past & current medical issues. Is it possible that in the recent past you went through a lot of stress or suffered through some grief or were really sick? Because that (supposedly) it can show up in your nails.

  7. You’re an absolute gem and thank you for your honesty. Saying you’re a doctor and yes you have medical anxiety is the most humane and empowering statement. Especially to all who suffer with anxiety. Glad your appt went well, that your finger and fingernail are good and God speed good health 🙏🏻

  8. The possibility is scary! You wouldn't be human if you didn't have some anxiety about a symptom that is widely known as an indication of melanoma or any other cancer. I'm glad for the reassurance you got from your doctor. Really, sometimes ignorance is bliss.

Chuckling about going to the wrong office. Not that I've ever done that…….

  9. Hello Dr. Bayo! I am new to your channel and so very happy I found you! I wish I could have you as my doctor!!! Thank you for the advice and support you give, thank you for the time it takes…

  10. Dr Bayo , I don’t always comment however I do always watch and listen. You are truly one of the most real and most compassionate physicians I’ve ever met. I worked in the OR , In the Office and in Administration for 35 years and I’ve worked with so many different Physicians, Specialists, Nurses and Supportive Staff. You are truly a one in a million Physician! I truly thank you for all the compassion and genuine realities you bring to so many people who find so much comfort in your presence and your words. It’s easy to see that you truly speak the truth from your heart. I truly appreciate you ! Wish your office was near me ! I’m 68 years old now and have come into a health issue that started out as a “ simple hemorrhoid banding “ and has grown into having absolutely a crazy medical health situation that has nearly had taken my life three times. Twice developed Sepsis , Had a GI Bleed and then had a complete wound dehiscence which has taken over a year of every other day packing and unpacking to close the wound ~ in other words to heal by secondary intention … I just know you’re exactly the kind of Dr everyone would love to have as Their own ! Including me ! Sending you so much love and so many prayers all will be well with you ! You are one very Special Physician and Genuinelya lovely soul ❤
