No Pavement at 4,200m — Descending Wild Boar Pass in Western Sichuan | 4K

This drive begins high in the mountains of Western Sichuan, on a rough gravel track more than 4,100 meters above sea level.

Wild Boar Pass lies near Liqi Village in Gaba Township, Kangding, between the Xinduqiao and Jiagenba areas. Its older name is Tianji Wangga Pass, once a little-known ridge viewpoint familiar mainly to locals and experienced outdoor travelers. In recent years, the far more memorable name “Wild Boar Pass” has spread widely and turned this remote mountain road into an increasingly recognized destination.

The highest viewpoints sit at roughly 4,290–4,300 meters. In clear weather, the open ridge offers sweeping views toward the Gongga massif, while Yala Snow Mountain can be seen in the opposite direction. Alpine meadows, exposed ridgelines, forested slopes and enormous snow-covered peaks create a landscape that is unmistakably Western Sichuan.

This part of Kangding lies in the complex mountain transition between the Sichuan Basin and the eastern Tibetan Plateau. The wider Xinduqiao–Gaba–Jiagenba region forms part of the travel corridor around the western side of Gongga, an area known for highland pastures, Tibetan villages, Muya cultural heritage and some of Sichuan’s most dramatic mountain scenery.

What makes Wild Boar Pass particularly interesting, however, is the road itself.

Beyond the village area, pavement gives way to dirt, loose gravel, ruts and steep mountain tracks. The final approaches toward the ridge become noticeably steeper. Some sections have been widened or improved in recent years, but this remains a high-altitude unpaved road where rain, mud, fog and rapidly changing weather can dramatically alter the driving conditions.

One important detail: the filming vehicle did not manage to climb the final few meters of the steepest summit approach. For that reason, this video does not begin at the highest viewpoint. The descent starts from the upper gravel road at 4,169 meters, then follows the mountain track downhill through the ridgeline and into the valley toward Liqi Village.

This is not a polished scenic highway. It is a raw mountain road where the terrain is still very much part of the driving experience.

No narration and no background music — just an immersive 4K drive with the natural sound of tires on gravel, the vehicle, the wind and the high mountains.
