O’o – Aquamarine

O’o are the Barcelona-based duo of French experimental musicians Victoria Suter and Mathieu Daubigné. Taking their name from a now extinct songbird once worshiped by Hawaiian kings, their music combines analogue synthesizers, live instrumentation, vocal harmonies and drones to construct rich and organic textures. In June 2022 the duo will release their debut full-length album, Touche.

“Aquamarine” is a rich and soulful piece of music that combines dense, textural and ambient artistry with the duo’s ever-present pop sensibility. Setting the tone ahead of the release of their debut LP Touche later this year, triumphant crescendos give way to passages of momentary bliss, foregrounding Victoria Suter’s warm, playful vocals.

Pain is creeping, seeping
Words are sleeping, weeping
Through her liquid thoughts
Bubbling shaming noughts
And nullifying crosses
Can only count her losses

Alone, well out of earshot
Recounting the unwritten plot
Re-enacting the lovey dovey dove
And her useless drowning love.

Sudden springs of spite swelled up
Soon waves of rage welled up
