Paul F. Tompkins: Tasting Menu | Off Menu with Ed Gamble and James Acaster Podcast 🍽️

Off Menu fan favourite from way back in Series 3, US podcasting royalty and ‘Bojack Horseman’ star Paul F. Tompkins returns to the Dream Restaurant for a Tasting Menu.

The ‘Mr Show’ star, ‘Comedy Bang Bang’ regular and host of ‘Spontaneanation’ joins Ed Gamble and James Acaster to (pretend to) eat a mystery meal from another previous Off Menu guest. Moules mariniere juice with bread sauce and a glug of Bailey’s anyone?

Some people think this podcast is called Off The Menu but it’s not.

  1. There are funnier people in the world (although I can count them on the fingers of one hand), but PFT on a podcast is perfection on a sporting level. Like Michael Holding with a ball in his hand, or Steph Curry from 3.

  2. PaulF is conveniently forgetting that he (kinda) played the devil in a movie once… hmm, perhaps he doth protest too much about the idea of the devil being charming.

  3. And also I just want to add to my last comment that this is potentially the definition of comedy: to have a guest that's so misaligned and to have a conversation that is interesting with two great minds (i.e., the two hosts), but to have the actual framework of the podcast persist. Anyway it's just a thought.

  4. I think a great avenue for this podcast would be if you are able to get certain guests on that weren't necessarily aligned to food or comedy but still run the same format. I think you're burdened on the edge of flogging a dead horse. Not to say that it's not great because I love it and always will, but I'm just thinking about the future: perhaps you could get somebody on that's more of a serious guest (or "serious" in that way) but still run the same format.

  5. OH. MY. FUCKING. GOD! The Marco Canora bone broth commercial is in this video, and it's STRATEGICALLY PLACED before the segment where Paul talks about having a colonoscopy! As someone who's been having them since I was 35 (family history of colon cancer) I REFUSE TO BELIEVE THIS IS NOTINTENTIONAL! Clear bone broth is a colonoscopians best friends. (I'm usually vegetarian, but I'm already eating standard jello leading up to a colonoscopy, no reason to pretend it's not made of animals, and consume something nutrition dense enough that I don't feel like death going into it. Also he's 59!? So either he's getting botox, or i need to stop being a vegetarian.)

  6. This episode is so incredilbe, PFT is one of my absolute favorite comedy humans. I have started it three times today, gotten at least to 35 minutes in, realized I wasn't paying enough attention to it considering how good it is, taken it all the way back to the beginning twice before realzing, "I need to be watching this instead of just listening to it" And started it from the beginning again on youtube for the third time. And I Just realized I did finish it when I had it on the other day, but was not in a position at the time to give it my full attention. Also, watching this is making me realize I need to take better care of my skin.

  7. 15:55 is that "he… OR SHE!" a reference to the bit Acaster does in his Repertoire show? It sounds exactly like how he does it, and I imagine Paul have likely seen those shows.

  8. Please help.
My boss asked me questions this week.
‘What have you been doing’ etc.

Is it ok for me to help? Or should he submit his inane queries to the ‘yes, how can I help’ service?
