Despite…. Surprisingly…. Being a Boomer, as GenX I actually find myself pretty much in lockstep with Ricky! He's a fierce, no nonsense Moderate! Able to take the piss out of BOTH sides!!! The Trans Lunacy on the Left! And Religion and Fascist Nonsense on the Right!
And in this DEEPLY Polarised Environment, we actually need MORE people like him, not less! Because when I was growing up, the Political Zeitgeist was firmly in the Middle! Sure, we had extreme deviations at both ends… More so on the Far Right than on the Far Left! But up until say 2008, these deviations were manageable!

Im an agnostic atheist and I do not claim him at all, i think criticism towards religion is absolutely fair game in a world mostly dominated by one, but there's also a time and a place for that

For all his success and adoration, behind all the arrogance and boasting Gervais still strikes me as being one of the most desperately insecure, thin-skinned individuals on the planet. It's like he's still so haunted by his early failures in life that anything that challenges his perceived status as a comedy god is entirely untenable to his self-image, the kind of person who you just know will be fuming for hours over the mildest criticism. He's like the Graham Linehan of comedy.
Hey, I really liked your channel. I'm not even sure this is the correct video. Here's the brief, I saw you made some "joke" " they're the youngest person blah blah to receive this blah blah" and you cut to a picture of the person with their face photoshopped onto someone with dwarfism. And for me this was not a v successful joke. Tbh I wasn't sure of your intent, but in that moment I didn't get it. If I have the energy I'll go back and check which video it was because it made me think for a few days afterwards.
Anyway, overall love ur stuff, I think it's well put together, but my wife suggested I mention it to you before I pass much judgement to understand where you were coming from.

Does Alley Cats really take advantage of it being an animated medium or the fact that the characters are talking cats? Or is it just another avenue for Gervais to talk and have conversations to sound deep?

I ended up watching Alley Cats out of an "how bad could it actually be" curiosity watching and honestly it was just boring, morbid and a chore to watch.
Just one long slog that felt like listening to an old man at a pub drone about his unsolicited opinions on whatever is on the television or the paper.
Considering Stephen Merchant was the funnier and more talented of that early team, he definitely should retire. Merchant was the Larry David to Gervais’ Jerry Seinfeld…
honestly i hate it when popular actors collab with alcohol brands and promote drinking. alcohol is so harmful and i thinkas a society we’re starting to realize just how harmful it is even in small quantities and then you have idk bryan cranston and aaron paul making alcohol look so cool and hip

Alleycats has got to be Ricky trying to recreate the podcast, where he had an opportunity to sound smart and be combative (poor Karl) but has to control everything this time so it’s completely scripted. Depressing.
Went to see him in Cambridge the other night, and TBH the warm-up act made me laugh more…… the Hitler pieces and Jimmy Saville with disabled kids was just waaaay off. I did like his London vodka adverts though.
