Interesting we never have this "epidemic" discussion when talking about cars.
100+ deaths and 1,000s of injuries by cars on American roads daily.
But sure, ebikes are the biggest of our concerns at this point in time, go off.
Epidemic of stupidity
“Epidemic” 😂
the city just needs to ban ebikes and escooters for the public's safety. No more of either. NO MORE LIME or ANYTHING like it in seattle, the experiment is OVER. Riders are crashing into people on the sidewalks and in the streets. It's not safe to walk on the sidewalk because one of these idiots not wearing a helmet will be speeding along, and its not safe to drive because they're also disobeying local traffic laws while cruising through the streets! LAW enforcement needs to STOP the nonsense and start pulling over EVERYONE not wearing helmets, not whoever they choose. This is truly a matter of public safety. It's time to BAN LIME
Too many people trying to ride those Lime scooters two-up, with neither person wearing a helmet. YOU WILL BE SERIOUSLY INJURED OR KILLED, AND YOU MAY HAVE TO WATCH YOUR FRIENDS DO THE SAME. It's not worth it. So many people get drunk and ride them home from the bar or whatever. Lime scooter injuries make up a double digit percentage of the trauma calls at Harborview in Seattle. Please treat these motor vehicles with the seriousness they deserve. They may look like silly toys, but they can and will kill you if you're careless.
Yes instead of using tax dollars to make safer bike lanes and improve the crappy US road infrastructure, blame the e-bikes. There's a reason other countries aren't complaining about e-bikes nearly as much as people here.
Then maybe we should be out blocked of lanes for e-bikes and e-scooters
Interviewing the docs about "e-bikes" is not that helpful. Yes, they see the trauma, but only add to the hysteria and are usually misinformed as to what really caused the trauma. First or all, most crashes attributed to "e-bikes" are more likely crashes on "e-motos", which are electric motorcycles or electric scooters that operate with more power and speed than a legal, classed, e-bike. E-motos operate on roads, and illegally on sidewalks and bike lanes. E-bikes are slower, less powerful and are allowed to operate legally on sidewalks and bike paths. Until recently, even law enforcement had no idea what a legal "e-bike" is – or is not. Secondly, the fundamental problem is mixing vulnerable roadway users (pedestrians and bicyclists, etc.) with cars and trucks. That is the real problem. Without proper infrastructure on our roads to protect from cars and trucks, infrastructure already proven in more advanced countries such as the Netherlands and Denmark, vulnerable road users will continue to make their way into the ERs.
Last year a man going the wrong way on the shoulder of the highway collided with the side of our truck as we were waiting to turn. We were told we were at fault because he was technically a pedestrian,. Now our insurance rates are higher. E-bikes should require insurance and have to follow traffic laws if they choose to share the road with cars
As if we don't have enough BS to navigate, now we have scooters and ebikes. It's impossible to have a 360° view. Make them register and insure their vehicles, just like drivers do.
Get rid of them. Enforcement seems impossible. They haven't been around for long and already they are a continual menace and unnecessary danger as kids use them to speed down sidewalks filled with pedestrians and dogs.
More money than sense, if you have money you are an idiot for driving one of these things do you know how many people at gas stations I see completely faded out for shooting up I don’t feel sorry for you
What about the 500 ebike street takeover Sunday night near seattle center? They were riding straight at traffic weaving in and out, if we hit them it's the drivers fault?
It's natural selection sadly
Transportation of any kind is dangerous. Scooters are less dangerous than cars. Bikes less dangerous than scooters. We can redesign the road to be safer and we should.
Finding “a way to organize the Speed” does not cause injuries.
Problem number one is that people do not wear proper equipment when writing these things number one a helmet.
On top of car/truck/Van/bus driver’s lack of situational awareness is the catalyst for a lot of these injuries.
I am a senior and find myself frequently endangered by young people riding scooters and ebikes on sidewalkes and running red lights as I attempt to cross the street legally. I want them gone!
So are guns… you'll have to rip my scooter out of my cold dead hands
So is Robbery
