Timber bridges are still being built, usually for the aesthetics, but as long as the site conditions and design is solid they can be excellent bridges. They do require a little more specialty knowledge during inspections to know where to look for defects unique to timber, like crushing at the girder bearings on the substructure units and checks and splits in the high-moment regions of the beams.
Those louvered stop signs are all over rural Missouri. Especially on the "county" highways where the gravel side roads meet up.

There's several Rainbow Bridges in California still left in place. You have to look to find them though. The road now runs much lower many of the times, so they're up higher in the canyons. It's a shame that we don't build like this anymore, cause most of them are over a hundred years old.

I think ten or fifteen years ago, 60 minutes or some other news show did a broadcast about bridges in the USA. Most of the are Rated D or worse. I guess they rate bridges A through F and what they find is that most need to be condemned. Think about that. Most of the bridges are D or below.

They built some new wooden bridges in Norway. And one of them collapsed recently. Not because of the wood but the fasteners.
