A Heavy Summer & A New Beginning | Finding Footing in the Chaos

It’s been a whirlwind here at the homestead. Between the immediate threat of wildfires just two miles away and the exhaustion that comes with the “midlife shift,” I’ve been feeling the weight of this season. In today’s video, I’m sharing some honest reflections on aging, parenting adult children as they get their first jobs, and how I’m finding my footing when everything feels unsteady.

I’m also so excited to announce a new series here on the channel: Mountain Mama’s Haven. This is a return to my roots—focusing on the creative, “feminine” arts of homemaking that ground our nervous systems and bring peace to our homes.

Join me in the kitchen as I process a massive harvest, share some “real talk” about PTSD and healing, and make some simple Jelly Pizzas to lift the spirits of my family.

In this video:

The reality of homesteading during wildfire season.
Honest talk about energy shifts in your 40s.
Supporting yourself and your family through transitions (Back to School!).
Announcing the “Mountain Mama’s Haven” series.
Coping mechanisms for PTSD as a homemaker.
Making “Jelly Pizzas” and finding joy in the small things.

  1. This video was like a balm to my soul. Much needed….I am weary lately. The ending was the best (a foretaste of your M.M.'s haven?) Thank you, friend for the peace and beauty! ❤

  2. I'm a Gen X Mom of many who's been home educating more than 20 years. I hope to someday build a channel, and in the mean time, yours is a boon to me. Thank you for sharing. I too am healing from ptsd, and severe health challenges in the midst of adoring God and my family. You are such a blessing!!!!

  3. Hi Shayla, I love the new content, it's gona be great! I remember u talking about the 5 senses in one of your fall homemaking videos, thank u for the reminder. It's been a rough morning, but thanks to you, I'm going to go put on a dress and some makeup and try to save this day. The good thing is my dishes are still waiting patiently for me 😂. Btw I laughed so hard at the vinegar scene, especially the second time and u laughed, it totally made my day. Also the garden Is So Gorgeous 😍! I think the staggered milk supply is genius as well. Have a great weekend💖🌺🕊️ ps ur makeup looks so good in the promo scene, and the cream dress is super pretty on u, that's a really nice color on you 💕

  4. I turned 49 in July and I still have a 6yr old, 9 and 12. My tween wants to 'chat' every night at bedtime. I need sleep more than ever. 8~9 hours is my sweet spot. Getting enough sleep makes my energy much better.

  5. Thanks for being real, Shayla. I love your videos because I see the things that happen to me all the time. It's nice to know that I am not the only one who's attempts at pretty get derailed by something silly. 😊

  6. Thank you for another beautiful and inspirational video. I am taking the day off today to catch up on chores around the house. Not much of a day off, I guess, but your videos always remind me of how important it is to take pride in homemaking. I feel so grateful and blessed to have this time with my family even though it can sometimes feel overwhelming. Your canning looks amazing! Reminds me of home and my mom 🙂

  7. I wish you and your family and neighbours would not have to live with this stress of wild fires as you do. I hope it will all disappear in autumn. You might not have noticed it, but you do talk about PTSD more often than you think, in my opinion. However, it is really important that you share that with your audience as you can help them along the way.
